M62 Nitrous Install Going on Today at SMG.

Just wanted to keep some of you up to speed as to what is going on at the shop on this lovely day...(of course a rainy day, as this whole summer has been in New England)

Today we will be installing a full Zex nitrous kit in one of our customers (who will remain un-named for his own reasons). Kit is a complete Zex kit with heater, racer tuning kit, window switch, purge kit etc etc. Car currently has what is known as the "SMG Special" setup on it, with a 2.8 pulley, 60's, heat exchanger, dual pass, header/dp, 3in cold air and a Fred Jr. tune. Car made 270 whp, 252 wtq on the blower, and by the end of the day we hope to have some nice numbers on the spray.

We will keep everyone up to date throughout the day in this thread with some pics and some vids once we strap her down to tune.

Hey everyone, Wanted to post up an update.... So we hit the car with a 50 shot to start and gained all of that and some.

We baselined the car on the blower only and found that the car dropped power to 240-220 torque.... Scratching out heads ALOT... we came to find that the KN Air filter was COMPLETELY CLOGGED!!!!!

SO... we went ahead and cleaned the filter and hit it with the 50 shot... and saw 305 whp and 290 wtq.

SOOOOO after only 2 days of the car being on the 50 shot.... our customer got bored. So last night we decided to hit it with a 100 shot. and results were.................... 340whp, 364 wtq on LOW BOTTLE PRESSURE!!! (850 psi)

Currently the car is back strapped to the dyno and ready to make a full bottle pull at optimal bottle pressure (1100 psi)

WE WILL KEEP EVERYONE POSTED, WE HAVE VIDEO's and dyno charts to post!

So now for some results.... Car is running great! I know there has been alot of talk about the 100 shot not being safe for these cars with stock internals but I personally as a vet. tuner disagree if you monitor/tune/understand what is going on with the car. Nitrous users that assume that a pulley'd balt can take a 100 wet shot with no tuning may be risking alot, however a properly tuned car with this much spray can maintain reliability... and we will prove that as time goes on with this car as it is his daily driver and has run 4 bottles through the car since last FRIDAY!!!!

EGT's look great along with the rest of the tune... all the supporting cooling mods, plugs, and exhaust components are all helping that, along with the fact that the way we set this up is a step away from being a direct port kit it is keeping all the temps VERY low, especially on 15-18 psi of boost from the blower....

I know the fear is there on how hard the spray hits and is why im sure some of you fear the pistons...however, when tuned properly softening the blow on the motor when the nitrous hits is VERY possible.

...So returning to some of our results.... Our power seeking customer (Jim) who continues to remain nameless on the forum still wanted more power.... SOOOOooooo we hit it with a 125 shot...

374 whp and 364 wtq was the result. Tho not a large tq gain, the torque on the average gained very well and you will see that when i post the dyno chart up in a few minutes...along with a vid.

Just wanted to through out an update, 125 shot running strong after dyno pulls and 2 days of street use and the tune looks awesome.

car is 2.8 pulley'd

Here is the dyno chart. Rough line on the 100 shot is due to only 850 psi of bottle pressure dropping to 775 during the pull

Dyno compare on the 100 and 125 shot.

judging on the numbers and upgrades he listed I'd say it was a 2.0 not a s/c 2.2 or 2.4

The stock internals can hold quite a bit on the proper tune...the key is safety and not getting over aggressive

Wow awesome numbers Fred. I don't think he'll have any problem keeping up with my car on the streets now. I'll be lucky to keep up with him.

I started a SMG customer thread in the regional area so all of us that are frequently at the shop can keep track of what everyone is doing with their cars. (trying to get it moved to the SMG Vendor section)

Exactly. Numbers are right in line, 04redline0124's car put down right around 320whp on a 90 shot but with less supporting mods and never had any internal problems.

Do advise the customer to not get too happy with it on the street. Pulling one gear on a dyno is one thing, spraying 2nd,3rd,4th in a long pull on the street, temps get out of hand, EGT, cyl chamber, pistons get hot, all that good stuff.

Impressive numbers still, I need to get one local guy who is about to go on bottle going, he wants to get up to a 100 shot, maybe I'll get him on a 125 just for ***** and giggles. Car is stock otherwise, just intake and cat removed.
