Just throwing this out there, but if you're filling half of the tank with E, just how much of a difference would it make to fill the other half with 87 instead of 91? I've seen articles that pin E85 anywhere from 100 to 113 octane.

Just think how much your really saving running Valero over Shell.or even circle k(non shell) over QT or Chevron.Ill pay the extra couple cents a gallon to have a good top tier rated gas,and yes I can tell the difference if Im forced to use a station not top tier rated(especially with a boosted car).I will only use QT chevron and shell unless it's not available. But thats just my opinion and preference.

Yah I dont think 87 to 91 would be a huge different. I mean 1/2 E85 and 1/2 water is still E42.5..

The octane rating when compared to detonation qualities is 106. The actual octane rating when compared to a high quality gasoline is 97-98OCT.

When you get your hp tuners back I will try that mixture answer see if we knock. If it doesn't knock that will save a few dollars at the pump.

By switching to 87 would it mess up your trims? might be a dumb question but just wondering

I was able to get away with this until I added my the ZZP intake tube and MPX catless DP. Started to knock on me in 2nd gear and thought it was false, went for 3rd, looked at the laptop and was getting 3* of KR (on all 4 cylinders, pulling timing, it was real). I'm sure the heat is playing a major role. I plan on testing it again when it gets cooler. Cool thing about it though, I was getting stellar fuel mileage with the 87/E mix (around 29mpg calculated, not DIC). Now with the 91/E mix, I'm getting 27.8 calculated with the same drive/driving style.

Give it a shot. You might be able to get away with it if you're tune/E only.

Nope, not going to affect anything. My fuel trims have stayed the same now after switching and running through two full tanks.

And now for my bitching rant...............

On my way home from my new job (Third week) and today was a great day! Booked and shipped about $35k in components, had a great workout and was just excited to get home and spend some time with my wife and daughter. I'm traveling east bound on the 101, just after the 17 transition and get boxed in due to traffic. No biggie right? Wrong... The pavement is fresh and pitch black and what do I see ahead of me? Someones tire tread off of what looked like an F'ing monster truck tire. Guess who had no where to go and no choice but to hit it? This guy.... ARGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.............

So now I have to pay a $500 deductible and have some knob "fix" my car. Lovely.

Damage;
Lower lip - Scuffed for days/smashed, black rubber embedded and clips broke all across the passenger side

Fog light - Gone...

Front Bumper - Scuffed/smashed, black rubber embedded and clips broken all across the passenger side

Other damage - Unknown at this point

EFF YOU MR. TIRE TREAD. THANKS FOR "TREADING" ON MY GREAT EFFING DAY! YOU DIRTY SON OF A BIMBO!

I hit a rabbit and got the same outcome. All tabs on my passenger side are broken off and i have a black mark and hold on the end of my lip where it was rubbing on the tire. My fog light was pushed into the bumper and there was fur and blood everywhere. Lol

And the actual bumper has 2 cracks in it.
