That cylinder got worked! I was trying to take pictures through the lense in the boroscope but it didnt work. haha There is a larger section that seem to got the brunt of the damage. Burn marks and server scoring and on the opposite side of that is a even wear of the cylinder from what appears to be from the land.
Came to the conclusion that the intercooler pump was not working and the IATs got too hot. When the car started to boost in 5th, because of cruise control engagement and going up a hill, the IATs sky rocketed and something had to give. Atleast it was only one cylinder as I could tell.
So anyone who is SC'd I strongly suggest checking the IC pump or get a interceptor to monitor it. That would have saved his motor.

Talked to IPT today after the. 'Builder' was a ass hat to me and said that my car has to throw a code in order for it to not shift or slip... there's no code. It is what it is. He said that it was an impossibility and that I don't know what I'm doing.... like really?! What a ******* ass hole. He also said he wouldn't be covering fluids or the removal and install or any of the shipping. . He said no one has ever broke one before so I must be well over 500 wtq. Okay fucktard! Needless to say I'm out a thousand dollars at least and wont be doing business with IPT again after this. Done with the cobalt. Finding something else

I don't know what to say Tyler. How where you driving when this happened? Where you driving how YOU drive and shifting it or letting it shift itself? What fluid is in it? Is it just slipping? trans filter is good? fluid level it good? fluid level can play a big role in the feel of a transmission.

We did about 4-5 WOT pulls and drove 20 minutes all together. We didnt notice the trans feeling shitty unitl after we turned the car off, I corrected a little bit of trims and he upped the boost. When he put from park to drive it felt loose (it didnt shift hard like normal). He put it in "I"
We then went to log more on the freeway and when it tried to shift it hung for a while then slowly slipped into gear (it was like if I were to ride my clutch). When it would downshift WOT it would try to get in a lower gear but couldnt, it redlined, then tried again RPMs dropped, then they redlined... So we stopped. He eased into it instead of mashing the gas and it had the same result.
When we got back to my place we tried getting fluid from trans with my vacuum pump but I couldnt get any from the port up top. I opened the port and stuck the tube in the tranny and got some on the side of the tube, still couldnt suck any. (not sure if I can get some from up top or not).
The fluid I got on the side of the tube had a brown tint and smelled like **** (burnt).
He used mobile synthetic trans fluid from what I remember. Something like 13-14 quarts. Unless the idiots at the shop didnt fill it again after the initial and before the tq converter got filled I dont see it being low.

Well Chris, you will know just as much, if not more then I will. I am just saying BEFORE blaming IPT out right, make sure that there is no human error. ie: low fluid, lose connectors, or any things else that could be QTI's fault before blowing off the handle and jumping down IPT's throat. Why not try a complete fluid/filter change to a conventional ATF? Not all transmissions like the same fluid. My dads 4t65EHD HATES synthetic fluid. Runs better with conventional ATF.
Also, I know that Tyler likes to shift his car likes its a 5 speed. Is there anyways AT ALL that this type of shifting could be atleast a little bit of the reason he is eating transmissions so fast.
I'm not blaming you Tyler. Just putting all the facts out to try to help you. Sometimes it can be the driving style that causes issues, and not the parts. Sometimes people have to change their driving style to keep stuff from breaking on their car. Maybe this is one of those times.

I can maybe think that it could be not putting enough fluid in by QTI because we didnt see any leaks when we got back to my house.
The only time he manually shifted was when he went to "I". Even manually shifting shouldnt matter, the trans still should be built for it.
Other than that I am out of ideas. All I know is something had to burn up because it smelled like ****. We thought it was the smashed bird next to us but confirmed when we go the fluid out of the trans and smelled it.
Its just weird that in the middle of 4-5 runs we didnt notice it but after we turned it off then back on is when it was noticed.

Is his trans cooler functioning properly? No kinked lines or anything? Whose to say QTI didnt put bulk fluid in and shelf the mobil 1? I would try a fluid/filter change and go from there, atleast change the fluid and MAKE sure that it has proper levels in it. The only way to know for sure is to do it yourself!
