I am so glad that I don't have to register my car in cali...I have 35% on rears and 50% on front sides....when I go home on leave or for school or something they can't say anything to me about it...out of state plates means that your car must be legal to the state in which it is registered....so cali tint laws do not apply to me

once again i am sorry to tell u that site is wrong. Any tint in cali on front windows is illegal. I am majoring in criminal justice and my vehicle codes violations class we spent 3 weeks on just stuff normal racers do to their cars and the legality. I have the california vehicle code book for god sakes man.lol

Stock is 70%

Yes, stock windows are tinted.

I have 15% on the front and 5% on the back of my '05 GTO, I never roll the windows down (it's cold out) and I drive an average of 500 miles a week and I haven't had a single cop give me an trouble here in NY, and tint is Illegal here.

Call CHP ANY tint on the side windows is illegal. (aftermarket tint that is) However they dont really seem to enforce it if they can see in ok. I have a step above limo sides and limo on the rest...3 months no tickets...we will see.. Cali is different then most states.

Just to reiterate, NO POST-FACTORY TINT is permitted on front driver & passenger windows. That said, I've had 35% on the front 2 and 20% on the rear 3 for over a year now, and cops here don't seem to mind too much.

not if your currently living in the state of california. i used that registered thing in court and lost. they told me that since i was living there that i had to go by california state law. im was in the military at the time with texas plates. 35% tint in texas is legal on the front 2 windows. so think again

tint it anyways. I have no idea how dark mine is, but its pretty dark, probably around 30-35%, and i've never had issues.

Hell, I don't even have a front plate.

Rusty, you remember how dark mine was?

yea man i agree with Will. Honestly it's a ten dollar fix it ticket if they pop u, but be careful if u have other illegal parts. tint ticket is an easy excuse for them to pop ur hood. I had to pull mine off for my fix it tickit and im putting it back on. chp needs to get the dicks out there asses and deal with the important issues not pulling us over just because we have nice cars

haha, yeah, they usually are. On top of it my car is yellow, you being red, you know what kind of cop magnet that is.

It may have something to so with my NC plates and military registration sticker in the front window, haha.

@Yakko, just go to a local tint shop, if you can find a Tint Pro's shop, talk to them, they do an excellent job, and ask what the local policy is. they would know the best and most recent information. Then talk to them about what you could get away with. then just get it tinted, worst is you have to take it off.

Its southern California, what the **** are you doing driving with your windows rolled up during the day anyways? its 75 degrees all year, haha

like I said, I've had my tint (20% rear, 35% front) for over a year and no problems (and I've been pulled over a couple times). just do it... it's worth it.
