no updates yet for Sunday. This track will open again in March for street legals. Btw, some guys there were saying that they (autoclub dragway) wil only allow street legal cars at street legal events as of this year. So for example slicks are not street legal so therefore cars with thme on can't participate. Has anyone else heard of such thing?

I spent quite a while last year at a couple events talking to the manager Beth about the changes in not allowing slicks. And from hearing someone on another board who called them they're now enforcing it. Basically you can no longer run true racing slicks but any other DOT approved tire is acceptable. That means you can run a DOT approved slick or a drag radial. Most of the the DOT slicks are essentially a racing slick that have a small water channel and you wouldn't want to drive them on the street anyways.
I brought up the point about driving in on street tires and changing to slicks at the track but she was pretty set against it. To summarize, they want to keep the street legal events "street" car orientated and keep some of the true race cars out. They were having a lot of issues with some of the older cars (i.e. muscle cars) not running mufflers and too loud of exhausts. When the lights eventually get installed and they start running in the evening the noise levels are going to be a bigger issue and they're hoping the no slicks rule will reduce those types of cars. Apparently the AAA sponsorship also wants to keep it a "street legal" event and racing slicks aren't legal for the street. I believe there was also a comment about the wear on the track (which street tires chunk up way worse so I'm not sure where that was coming from).
Best bet would be to send them a written letter as well as an email and let them know what you think. It would also help to contact AAA corporate or whoever handles the track sponsorships. I think it sucks and if I want to drive in on street tires and change over to slicks there shouldn't be a problem. I've seen and reported cars with balding, steel belt showing radials, running with only three lug nuts, and dripping all over the place and they didn't do anything about it. If they're concerned about non-legal cars maybe they should tech better. The traction already sucks and they don't do a good prep job on the surface so this makes me want to race even less there now, not like they have any events more than every few months now...

Just checked the web site and also called the dragway's phone number and neither are showing any racing going on tomorrow and the answering machine states it will be rescheduled later. When they've rescheduled in the past it has sometimes been on short notice so if anyone wants to race I'd periodically be checking their site for more info.
