Moving

Hey. Currently living in NC, but looking at moving back out to California. I was born and raised in Irvine, moved away due to my father being military.
Just curious if anyone in the LongBeach area would be able to shoot me some info as to the cost of living and such. Maybe some pros and cons to the area.
Appreciate any and all information, thanks.

long beach is decent priced but it is priced compared to where you want to live man.

you have to choose wisley.

long beach is border lines with hawaiin gardens which is not a great city.

are you looking for house or apartment? or simply a room to rent?

I would be looking for an apartment.
Preferably around the better side of town.

Might also consider just finding a room for rent.

Some nice parts of Santa Ana....Irvine is always nice but expensive as you probably already know. Are you going to be by yourself or roommates if you get an apartment?

Going solo would be a pain. I have a buddy who was planning on moving with me.. but im not sure if he will go through with it. So im trying to browse around and look at both 2bdrm and 1bdrm's. Plan is to fly out in February and take a look in person, and also job hunt.
Decent nightlife in the area i hope.. i would be looking for a bartending job.

Oh come on there is plenty of nightlife lol
if you're going to be alone would you consider a studio? For example I saw a studio in Costa mesa for $900 a month lol. Places aren't cheap but then again you never know. Go online too and see what's around. Back in 2005 my sister and some room mates rented a 2 bedroom in Irvine off of Michaelson and Culver for 1600 a month.

Studio would fly for me. I guess i would pretty much take whatever i could get at first.. just so i can settle in and get all my stuff together. 900/month doesnt sound too bad. This is where the job falls into play, lol.

I do appreciate the help and info.

Yeah...hmmm when you come out to look for places how long will you stay? Long enough to find a job maybe that you can start whenever you're ready to come back permanently and then you can quickly find a place lol. Do you have money saved up?

I would probably stay out there for a week or two. Browse the area.. throw in applications at all the local clubs. Check out the area for apartments and such, then head back. This is tough trying to plan this out. I have some money saved up.. not nearly want i would like to feel comfortable moving out there.

You're going to have to apply everywhere you possibly can...if you can even apply online while you're gone I'd do that, my sis got a job with just a phone interview so I know it's possible. But apply eeeeeeeeeverywhere. Are you just interested in bar tending at only clubs?

Bartending is fast easy cash for me. I am open to pretty much anything. Waiting tables... I guess i could also look up all the dealerships in the area and shoot them my resume. Have only been a WarrantyAdmin for 1year though. My only problem is i dont have much experience outside of alcohol and cars.

Not only clubs.. id work pubs, poolhalls, corner bars

I'd try also larger restaurants with good sized bars, you can always start as a server then move on to bartending there, they make good money.
