but i actually dont agree...ill make this simple...you yourself could not compose something in the same vicinity as Einsteins theory of relativity nor could u compose musical pieces such as Mozart...so in retrospect you can prove having "better" cognitive abilities. do you have a photographic memory? cause thats a cognitive ability that not everyone has so therefore by having one you are "better" right off the bat. So scratch my curiosity plz and clarify how u came to this ridiculous way of thinking, because the fact of the matter is that intellect is not a topic of discussion and it is possible to prove ones cognitive ability is better than anothers. Ever heard of an IQ test? Your cognitive ability is what helps rank that, and im pretty sure everyone does not have the same IQ.

So I appreciate your counter-argument Red Check this out.. If you're arguing that there is a definite conclusion to someone having "better" cognitive abilities than others... It is not just about comparing the cognitive abilities themselves.. The fact that I have photographic memory and you don't does not mean that I have "better" cognitive abilities than you do... It simply means that I have a cognitive ability that you don't.. On the other hand.. You may have a cognitive ability to compose music (i.e. your example above) which gives you a cognitive ability that I don't have. But in the end.. We both have cognitive abilities that are completely irrelevant to one another, therefore they cannot be compared. Now, if you are arguing that having "better cognitive abilities" simply means having more abilities than someone else, then that is false for two reasons. Reason 1. Human beings have multiple cognitive abilities and the fact of the matter is.. Not even we know about all the cognitive abilities that we posess within ourselves. Reason 2. Even if we did know of all of our own cognitive abilities... We could not compare the two of us and our abilities to the extent of crowning one of us having "better" cognitive abilities than the other. (i.e. the two cognitive abilities mentioned before: photographic memory vs. musical composition and their role of complete irrelevance). To comment briefly on IQ tests.. They are complete bullshit. They cannot prove someone having more intellect than someone else. Test-taking is a process that includes many more factors than just a person and their intellect. This is why studies prove that eating certain things improve test-taking skills blah blah blah. IQ tests prove nothing in reality.

so there are 3 main things...thinking, reasoning, or remembering....so if i can excel in one or two or even all three...regardless my cognitive ability is better than yours in either one way or all ways...plan and simple.

and if IQ tests dont mean ****...why do i get **** tons of money in grants and other **** for being a registered genius? plus it looks really nice on paper and a resume when i go to apply to places, even if it doesnt mean anything in reality from what u say.

 

true that..you can train yourself to be good at something...thats the way your mind works...repetition...true genius is not measured by a test or the ability to problem solve....

theres also a difference between being gifted or a natural compared to someone who works hard to achieve what that person so easily did with no training. and that is a big difference.

Thinking, Reasoning, and Remembering are things that are impossible to compare. You can excel at any of those.. But it is impossible to prove that you have done it better than me. How can you prove that your thinking is better than mine? how can you prove that your reasoning is better than mine? How can you prove that your remembering abilities are better than mine? Impossible.


Touching back on the IQ test. When I said it doesn't mean anything in reality.. I was referring to the fact that it does not provide (nor will it ever be able to provide) proof of someones intellect being at a higher level than someone elses.

Scores on it may provide better opportinities (as they have for you) etc. But that does not take away from the fact that IQ tests are not a true measure of intellect.

There is no argument... You cant compare abilities etc, because they are different with each person. Also Chris you suck at some things, but are good at remembering stuff, and writing. I really doesnt matter. And how does music/making music have anything to do with measurements of smartness? I can see the theory of relativity showing that someone is smart, because it requires that you think of many variable, and also understand what is going on with other things, and understand/figure out things that other people have never thought about. etc etc. Making music is not the same thought process as doing something "smart", Music is made for an opinionated audience, while physics is number based, and will always give the same answer when givin the same inputs, and does not require any opinion, because the answer will always be the same, and not "skewed" like it would if it were music. Music is not rooted in math either, so it can never be fully evaluated, because of opinions, which are the only rating of music. I know none of this probably made any sense, because i dont know how to write/explain very well, but what ever.

da vinci was a genius, i cant imagine those who wouldnt think he wasnt...but if he was a new age thinker then Einstein would be considered the same.

although einstein did have some schooling he is the godfather of quantum theory and mechanics....creating something that has never been known before is something u cant create by reading books. even Stephen hawking the smartest man in the world tried disprove his theories and couldnt do it. if that doesnt say something then y would we pride ourselves on such ppl.

but its really not that hard to prove that ppl can do a better job at thinking reasoning and remembering to the next. put 2 ppl in a room...have them watch a short video...test each person individually right after the video and have them describe to u everything that has happened in the video...then test them a week later...and then a month later...and then a year later....that test right there will show you results for the remembering abilities...now a person with a photographic memory would never forget...so how can u disprove that?

then you can also do tests in a similar fashion for the other 2 abilities (dont want to write a essay on it lol)...

so if an iq doesnt really mean anything...y do we have test for them? y do we even bother to focus on it or even have it in society?

Geniuses do exist in that they provide society with abnormal ways of thinking and provide work of their own to provide a structural backbone for what they specialize in. This is still not to say that geniuses are "smarter" than anyone else though. Just because someone hasn't provided an ingenius piece of their own work to provide this backbone doesn't mean that they are any less "smart" than the geniuses who have provided something. This just simply means that some people portray their abilities in different ways.. sometimes more distinctly than others.. But in the end.. "smartness" is not a measurable unit.

As far as your IQ questions... There are lots of things that exist in society that are bullshit. Doesn't mean they're right or a correct measure of something. Like I said.. They COULD provide with better opportunity... But this just leads to think that people just accept unproven facts (i.e. arguments that say IQ tests provide sufficient information about someones intelligence)...

 

im sorry chris but i have to greatly disagree with you again...there are ppl in this world that are just not that smart...u cant tell me that putting a child with downs syndrome in a class with normal functioning kids that the DS child will be able to keep up and partake in the classroom activities and conversations...im sorry but there are ways to measure levels of ability...how do u think we classify special needs...mild to moderate and moderate to sever...this is based on there abilities to function and comprehend or their cognitive abilities....not everyone is will hunting (matt damons role in good will hunting).
