There are very few manufacturers who drill rotors properly to minimize the chance they will crack. Even then they will offer no better braking and usually aren't recommended for any type of serious braking such as track duty. Same thing with slotted rotors. While they won't decrease stopping distance they can help keep the pad surface cleaner, but in doing so they'll eat up the pads much faster than regular rotors. Basically you're buying drilled/slotted rotors only for looks and not for functionality.

The stock pads are fairly decent, but if you want to improve braking the best thing you can do is replace the barking fluid with a higher quality DOT 3/4 such as ATE Super Blue, Motul, Castrol SRF, etc. and make sure to bleed them well. The only other upgrade if you plan to do any track duty that might help a little is braided stainless brake lines which will hold up better under extreme heat and won't balloon as much.

Congrats on the employment. More money = more stuff for the cars.

I'm going to try to buy another house closer to work, but you'd definitely hate my commute. There's a reason I don't mind going to third-world war zones... no having to drive to/from work.

But which does that term come from? Hint: it was a famous Saab rally driver that coined the term when he first started racing (and wining in) the underpowered 2-stroke Saabs fifty plus years ago.

If you only plan to drive it on the street you should be fine. If you get into heavy road course racing or longer auto-x racing then you may want to reconsider. They'll work no better for braking than stock rotors and increase the chance you'll have issues with cracking. It depends on what you're going to use the car for and if you're looking at them primarily for appearance reasons.
