Below are a couple pics of the SCXs. Red one is my daily driver (now over 212k miles but has a newer GM reman engine) and the other I bought a few years back for use as an eventual track car. It was build for SCCA Improved Touring (ITS) and I finally got it out of storage at my uncle's place in the midwest and towed out to my house at the end of last year.
I've been on q4f for years but never really post there. One too many auto forums, mailing lists, and other sites to try to keep up on. Give me a minute and I'll dig up some of the specs on the race car. It pretty much has most of the Rocket Parts on it that were available for the Quad 4 and the engine and modified rear axle assembly came from one of the actual World Challenge cars.

I remember reading the build on that and some of the info on the race. They're fun cars to drive and if you can keep the wheel bearings fresh they held up pretty well on the track back in the day.
Below is the list of stuff on the blue one. Stock the '92 cars (which the engine is based on) were rated at 190hp, 160 ft-lbs which back in the early '90s wasn't too bad for a naturally aspirated four. Still isn't bad today and even compared to the newer Honda engines it actually puts out some usable torque. The race car is going to need the engine gone through as it has led a long service life on the track but with all the work should be putting down some nice power numbers when I eventually get it on a dyno.

SCX (All W41) & '91 442/W41 Cars more or less make the Cobalt SS's seem common.
@ blackbird;
Thanks for sharing the pictures!!
Here's what I was thinking of changing my sig to after reading your sig;
2009 Chevrolet Cobalt SS; Rally Yellow/CF5/D81/G85/UAF
1991 Pontiac Grand Am LE; Bright Red/W32/LG0/AD3/AQ9*/MY5*/W41*
1991 Pontiac Grand Am SE; Bright Red/LG0
1973 Pontiac Firebird Formula; Ascot Silver/L30/M38
1970 Pontiac Firebird Formula; Carousel Red/L78/M13
Pontiac-oholic... with a Cobalt!?
I had long lusted after owning a nice 100% correct W41 car - they were never sold in Canada, and I only learnt about them around 2005!
I have a lead on a 91 442/W41/C41 ~ but haven't a clue how long the guy is going to hold out on me...
I know a guy in the LA area (don't ask me the name of the actual city in which he lives please!) who has a 92 SCX ~ SCX's are nice cars, but their only fault is the extra couple hundred pounds of weight they have over the 89-91 LG0 cars...
I occasionally see a nice white SCX @ the Redondo Beach city hall(?).
I am going to sell my '91 GA-SE, and quite possibly one of the Firebirds... just to thin out the flock a little.
I was thinking of putting the kybosch on getting that 442 should the opportunity arise, but the more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards getting it mostly for the heck of it... I just have to get a quote on making a double-wide parking pad in the back yard - then I'll have legal parking for four!!
EDIT:
Nice! (just saw your last post)
Actually 190hp is impressive witha naturally aspirated four banger ~ GM was supposed to match it with the new VVT-Direct Injected 2.4L - but the GM lit I got at the "new car" show a couple weeks ago peg's that engine at 182hp ~ only two hp more than the 1989-1992 LG0.
At first I thought the new Civic Si was cool, then I learnt that at the local track they're about 1.2 seconds slower in the quarter mile than my Grand Am was the first time I brought it out ~ which at the time had a pretty wicked rear main leak that soaked the clutch disc!!
I mean the new Civic Si makes 190hp with their Vtec - which actually uses HUGE cams compared to the Oldsmobile W40 (aka: regular LG0) or W41 (aka: HO-LG0) cams ~ I mean it has what twenty years of more technology in it!!... I would have expected better.
Do you know if that ITS-SCX was a C41 car?
-> C41 was a factory non-AC code, which on W41 cars meant it was (Torsen) LSD equipped car
If you're unsure, do you know if that "LSD" is it aftermarket or a "GM" part?

It has the GM Torsen installed and I don't think it was in the list but my blue car also has one of the baffled fuel tanks. It was built from a regular C60 car using donor parts from one of the old World Challenge cars. I've heard varying numbers over the years that around 6-9 of the C41 cars (non-AC) coming with the Torsen but after talking to a few people who used to race the N-body cars back in the day those cars came with the diff and other parts sitting in a box in the trunk and were never actually factory installed. Most of the Torsens were ordered separately for the built body-in-white cars that were put together for Firehawk IMSA and World Challenge cars.

Speaking of the W41 cars, I lucked out a couple weeks ago and found another '92 SCX in the junk yard and pulled the powertrain and all the SCX-specific stuff off it. In the last few years I think this is the fourth one I've run across.
At first I though it might have been a head gasket that let go after seeing the milky oil on the dipstick but after I got everything taken apart I found it was the somewhat common water pump that let go and leaked down into the timing cover. The internals all look pretty good and the car only had 106k miles and was otherwise pretty clean so it should make a nice core to rebuild for use in one of the cars.
^- side note: the 282 was already removed from the truck and that's a Chrysler A555 I also pulled that day.

All 1993 W41/C41 cars came with the Torsen factory installed.
Apparently the Torsen equipped cars are not supposed to run the regular syncormesh either... something about using a synthetic with the Torsen otherwise the Torsen's were locking up.

lucky find! & it's great that you saved that stuff - did you also grab the chip out of the SCX?
(since OBD1 cars use EPROM's, not EEPROM's, you need to swap chips ~ and the W41 tune was only released on those cars)
I have two W41 IDI's, and neither were cheap (the 2nd one was a compulsive purchase).
It took me forever to find someone who would sell me legit W41 cams for a reasonable price;
I could have ordered some up, but have opted both times to get bigger cams.
I ordered from GM my 91-W41 chip ~ then ended up selling it to a kid in Arizona...

I think I remember reading that but heard from another source that all of them came in the trunk. At this point it wouldn't surprise me if their memory was getting fuzzy. I've got some friends in the industry that work at other automakers and when asking them about projects they were involved on not more than five years ago I knew more about certain aspects than they did.
I've previously pulled the IDI covers, W41 cams and the computers from a couple cars. On this last one since it was in such nice shape I pulled the whole powertrain with axles, the computer, the g-sensor under the passenger seat along with the fog light/ride control switch for the electronic suspension, the SCX/LGO-specific instrument panel (140 mph speedo, 7k tach) and some other small stuff. I'm going to go back and pull the rear axle and sway bar assemblies and possibly grab the electronic ride control strut/shocks. Other than that I should have everything worthwhile off the car.

i didnt want to make a thread in the war stories haha
tonight a gto and camaro got killed a combo of dig and roll races
gto was a 5.7 not the 6.0, it may have been stock
camaro was like a 96 maybe idk had gears and sounded good
both cars owned by the same guy haha
i ran the gto from a roll like 35-40 he was beeping at weird times haha beat him b4 that did a dumb second gear roll at like 25 or under, i pulled after i got into my power band and he started to reel me in
just ******* around on that one or whatever haha
then he said u want to run a Camaro? i said yea
i follow him, its me and my friend, and him & his girl. so he gets the camaro and we do a 1st gear roll like 10mph and i spin through 1st hook on 2nd and i think he said he missed a gear idk he was doing that alot haha that race was close and i think i took the win.
the last run we did from a dig, i didnt launch well nor did i spin so it was fine idk what he did but took him on that one too. good friendly races cool guy
he said he always wanted to run a cobalt, i guess i made a dream come true tonight haha
