SoCal *IE* Dyno Day - Saturday, May 9th
#51
Looks like there will be a decent turnout. Probably 20-30 cars depending on how many actually show up. It will probably run until late if anyone can't make it early, but will be first come, first serve.
The owner was asking if there is any local demand for possibly expanding into some Cobalt work/tuning since they already work on other GMs. If anyone has been looking for a local shop you might want to talk to them. I told them I wasn't sure as most people I know do their own work.

I don't think they'll be able to do any tuning the day of the dyno. He was mostly looking to see if there was enough interest to justify the investment in the dealer software in order to tune the Cobalt. If you don't have anyone else you might ask them about it.

You saying the other dyno lies! NON SENSE!

Anyone want a mrz strut bar and jbp header?
I need to take off the header still, but ill let it go for 320.

Since it was brought to my attention that I didn't have the time posted, I've edited my first post to include that info. The kick-off time for the dyno day will go at 9am and is scheduled to run until everyone has dyno'd. It looks like a decent turnout should be expected so that will probably be late afternoon/early evening. It's going to be first come, first serve, and while early is better, if you can't show up until later in the day it shouldn't be a problem.

Darn, would have been good to see how your car was running. I didn't get home until the wee hours of the night, crashed out, and didn't get up until late that afternoon. Too many long hour and changing from working days to graves back to days one too many times has taken its toll in the last couple months.
Did everyone get a decent amount of runs in? I figured it might be a little slower because everyone thought it would rain.

- I think the jbp header on my car is giving me problems... its going from 1 3/4 primaries to a 3" collector, then connecting to a 2.5" flange which opens up to a 3" straight pipe the rest of the way back and out the 3" muffler. Seems if I go above anything other than a 3" pulley, which is boosting 13.5 psi @ 7000 rpm currently. With the 2.8 and meth I was able to pull 22* out of it until 6400 rpm, then dropped it to 19* @ 10.8 afr... With out meth on the 2.8, I managed to get 17-18* of timing @ 11.8 afr. And to add... the header to dp connection has a horrible leak lol... thank you jbp for your craptastic flange. The car even with it being a 3" catless is boosting more than others with the same pulley and more exhaust restrictions at the same altitude and temps.
Everyone got a really good amount of runs in. They do a great job of breaking it up into groups, and it flows very well.
Weather was in the 60s, with 65% humidity and a slight head win.
As usual tho, fontana was a hard track to get any traction at on st tires. and it took all of us all day to find out what the car likes on their crappy prep.
13 second cars anywhere else, fontana says **** you tho.

So you weren't running the alky injection at all Saturday? That exhaust does sound like there's some room for improvement. Cosworth Powertrain did all the development work on the engine for Ford on my SVT Focus and it has a great stainless 4-2-1 header stock. It flows perfect for high-powered naturally aspirated cars but I also may end up looking into aftermarket headers down the road. Add a lot of forced induction and they can start to bottleneck a little due to the smaller primaries.
I was hoping to take the Focus out last Saturday to get some baseline numbers before the blower gets installed. I would have been even better if I already had everything installed on the car, but I'm still waiting on a few parts and trying to figure out what I'm going to do for the tune (do it myself or try to track down the not-so-great stock Vortech flash). It's not really a quarter-mile car but I haven't had it out to a track in probably 4 years. Since it's also been 60K+ miles since I've dyno'd it I think I'll install the exhaust upgrades tomorrow and will be dynoing it Saturday. Not sure if you caught it in the SoCal chat thread, but here is what the Cobalt did at the last dyno day.

nope no alky
figure next time im out... I crank it up and throw the 2.8 on w/ meth on.
Dial in AFR into the mid to low 11s w/ as much timing as I can throw... prolly around 22-20*
