I'm thinking hard on this too but I wish I knew how big of a difference it would be with my mods.

JBP 12-21-2006 09:35 AM

I just reviewed our old dyno's done by Player_1. The gains evident are about 15.3WHP with boost-solenoid problems.. There's no doubt that we can hit 20 to 26WHP gain off of our Triflows.

Any mods ppl have done can only compliment this factor.

JCswoosher2 12-21-2006 09:39 AM

what about the idle on these things. is there anyway you could hear it and know that there is cams in there?

There is a slight increase in lope. However, it might be hard to tell especially with an exhaust that you have cams in there at idle.

CbYellowSS 12-21-2006 10:04 AM

whats the highest hp rating these cams are reccommended for??

Head over to the tech thread, we've answered this similar question there.

So, you are saying that without a tune maybe 15whp and with a tune over 20whp can be achieved right.

JBP, is there any possible way of a discounted price on your valve springs as well to go along with the cams? Just curious, I know that I will need them and maybe some other members will too.

Edubs 12-21-2006 07:29 PM

I will also need the valve springs. Let's see a package!!!

97 Z Me Go 12-21-2006 07:32 PM

ALRIGHT- Were up to 2 so far keep pushing!!!!!! Put the link in your sig to promote it more. The more people that buy the cheaper it is!

Thats what I would like to see as well.

JBP 12-21-2006 08:03 PM

We're always happy to make packages deals for customers. Here's some scenarios:

We have three flavours of springs to choose from:

a) Bates b) JBP c) Ferrea

Facts:
- The Bates and Ferrea are good for up to 9000RPM.
- Bates and Ferrea are dual coil springs
- The JBP Springs are good for up to 7800RPM and are single coil.
- The JBP Springs can fit stock retainers, locks and seals and minor pocketing.
- The Bates/Ferrea require purchasing retainers, locks, spring seats and seals

Packages:
To be honest, what are you looking for? There's so much selection and comparison to do with a 'spring package'. I can work up a package such as this:

PACKAGE A
JBP Springs w/Cam GP - $Discounted Price$

PACKAGE B
Bates Springs, Locks, Retainers, Seats, Seals w/Cam GP - $Discounted Price$

PACKAGE C
Ferrea Springs, Locks, Retainers, Seats, Seals w/Cam GP - $Discounted Price$

Sound good?

JCswoosher2 12-21-2006 08:07 PM

go with JBP ones. or which ever is recommended for the cams. which i would think u would say JBP's

DTM2188 12-21-2006 08:08 PM

Personally, the JBP valve springs would be sufficient enough for me. I don't plan on increasing my rev limiter pass the 7200 mark that it is at now and don't want to have to replace the retainers, etc. I'm just a little nervous with the getting the cams and not valve springs and still running a 7200 rev limiter so thats why I am interested. I think your site says $289 for the valve springs, not sure though. What would you be able to do package A for, would you be discounting the valve springs at all?

Edubs 12-21-2006 08:16 PM

Package A is what I'm assuming we're looking for. I don't know if I could swing the Bates or Ferrea price wise with the cams. Maybe if we got 11+, but that's doubtful. I would love to be able to build a solid valvetrain, but I was just planning on having a full P&P head built and installed when I built my own engine block up in the future. This kinda screws with my plans...

EDIT: My vote, A all the way.

97 Z Me Go 12-21-2006 08:50 PM

Damn sweet deal! Nows for sure the time to buy the set-up. Start sending the cash so we can get the cams at a lower price!!!!!!!:cssNET:

JBP 12-22-2006 09:18 AM

Okay guys, We can reduce the price to $259CDN ($227USD) for the JBP springs. (Package A). The nice things about these springs is that they are ready to rock using the stock valvetrain AND only require minor head modification. Again, this is only for those who purchase cams in conjunction with the GP.

If anyone needs installation tools, (cam gear holding tool, spring compressor tool), we have them available for rental/purchase.

DTM2188 12-22-2006 03:19 PM

JBP, I'm ready to give my down payment, but is everything still the same with that if you are going to buy the "Packaged" deal of cams and valve springs? Great discount on them too BTW.

JCswoosher2 12-22-2006 03:20 PM

would it be wise to go ahead and do head studs and new gasket?

JBP 12-22-2006 04:07 PM

Not sure what you mean? Basically, you buy the cams in the GP, you get the discounted price on the JBP springs.

You're not going that far into the engine... Those parts don't get touched. (unless you're taking the head off for other reasons). As for gaskets, everything gets reused as far as a cam change goes...

Well that answers my question . Wasn't sure if you had something set-up on your site for the Package deal like you do for the GP. I'll send the $66 now then.

Anyone know how many hours it takes to swap out the cams and valve springs...

...I would love to do this myself, but with a 30 day turn around for the cores I just don't have the tools, time, or garage to do it with.

It takes about 2-3 Hours to swap out cams (with the camshaft holding tool). It takes a good solid 6-7 hours to do a chassis spring installation (with the in-car chassis spring compressor). Thats with someone who knows what their doing.

I strongly recommend that everyone allows a performance shop/dealer to do the install.
