lol, looks like im gonna have electric tape under mine when i finally get it off then.

i find it funny how they said in instructions that any cracking is normal and is the metal underneath when the only thing under my shifter is a spring surrounded by foam...

when using a screw driver, the only leverage you can get is from the plastic piece under the shifter, which is why i broke it.

i have a feeling mine is glued because i know the owner before me had a short throw so at this point im just gonna bring it in and have then get the thing off themselves

Ok.. I am still waiting for my boots to come in but I am getting scared from the horror stories about breaking shifter pieces and not getting momo handle installed correctly. Is there anyway that someone who has done the shifter boot and e-brake boot with momo handle can do a "how to" guide with pics for noobs like myself so we (I) don't F up my car?

Thanks,

Rich

It's not so much a "how to" as a "how NOT to". If it's the plastic cap with the shift pattern inscribed that is the problem the solution is not to MUSCLE the thing off. You have to be gentle. Go slow, VERY slow, and use as little force as possible. That cap, at least my 09, only snaps into place in the shift knob. Unless somebody has glued it in you should be able to finesse it off using the smallest flat screwdriver you have. Even grinding or filing it to a sharper edge might help get it further under the cap.

If it's the actual knob that's the problem a small puller will do the job very nicely. Uncle Sears has some cheap ones. With some imagination a steering wheel puller would work great. But again, you have to be a little creative. Understand you have to apply equal force to more than one point at the same time. Preferably two points opposite each other. Try using the impact method. Using whatever you have at your disposal to apply some force to the bottom of the knob EQUALLY with one hand and with the top screw screwed in 1/2 way hit the screw a sharp wack. This works better with two people but I did it by my self with no damage to anything. Try squirting some panther ****, nut buster, what ever you call it, into the screw hole and let it soak a minute till it goes down and then do it again. Many times a little heat helps with problems like this. Both adhesives and tight fitting metal parts. Understand that the splined parts are stuck together by friction and even, constant, pressure is the only thing that's going to separate them short of completely destroying them.

And that's MY 2 cents.

Well, I got the boots in Monday. They look great. Started to install them last night. E-Brake handle went on without any trouble. Just had to trim a little on the top and side of the original plastic piece. Did not want to cut my original handle so I made a cardboard piece to to simulate the bottom to give the boot some shape. Works great but there is nothing between the end of the handle and the bottom of the boot so my boot does not look perfect like in the pictures. Had some creases and such but good enough for me. Now on to the shifter. What a POS trying to get that dang knob off. The cap was easy. Tried taking the retaining screw out half way and hitting it with a hammer while pulling up with a pair of large channel lock pliers (with tape around the pinchers). Did not budge at all. Then tried hitting the crap out of the bottom of the pliers. Still no budgey... Finally called it quits around 8pm in frustration. Sprayed some WD40 into the top of the shift knob and called it a night. Will try again tonight after work. I hate that damm shifter knob.

Did you use them like the guide from Redline and pry it off? Was scared to break the plastic like other people have done. May give it a try tonight if that is was everyone else is doing and it works.

Make an addition to your tool box. Once you have it, you'll find many uses for it. Trust me.

A puller is one of those tools you never need because you can Rube Goldberg something and usually end up screwing up something. But if you DO have it in the box you'll find yourself using it pretty often and douing the job right the first time. Again! Trust me. I was a Snap On tool dealer for 2 years. The deal from Harbor Freight is great for the home mechanic.

Finally got the knob off and finished installing everything. Thanks Buellfooll for the what not to do advise. Definitely helped. Thanks Rico for the help too. Also want to say thanks to Redline for an awesome product. Looks great. Could not get the ebrake boot exactly as nice and straight like yours but I think it still looks good. If I knew how to post a picture I would post it. Noobs.. Gotta love us!!

Yes Sir. You're quite welcome. Now maybe you can write a "How To" for posting pictures. I know I'm not the most computer literate and definitely not the least literate but I've tried everything and can't figure out how to post a picture here. I've tried the "go advanced" but WHERE DO I FIND A URL FOR MY IMAGE???? I have pictures all over the place on the computer but nowhere can I find URL's for the individual pictures. I can back a 102" tractor trailer down a 114" alley a 1/4 mile but I can' t do this.

Hot damn!! I think I've got it. Now if I could make them big enough to see??

Disregard the seat cover on the passenger side. That's only on there for my buddy Pedro. My Boston Terrier.

Looks much better when it's big enough to see.

Like I said. The seat cover is for Pedro. Believe it or not, he's actually happy here.

I don't know which I'm happier with. The great looking boots or learning how to post pictures.
