Determining the life of stock suspension components
Ok - you are all probably thinking this is going to be another n00b asking some question about how long their stock struts and shocks are going to last if they lower their car w/ just springs . . . but its not.
My question is, what all comes into play when determining the life of these components when lowered with just springs? What I mean by that is what affects the life? How aggressive you drive? The road quality in your area? How much you drive the car? 4 season driving? Etc.
I am just curious if there are things you can avoid to lengthen the life of a car lowered on stock components?
I am also curious if chassis damage can occur (eventually) if lowered on stock components?
Thanks!

Dont quote me, but I think its just the fact that the struts are being compressed almost all the time that makes their life shorter. The pressure of the gas in the shock is higher all the time. But then again, dont quote me, its just my opinion.

on my old car, i swapped oem suspension for KONI/Ground Control coilovers and at 17k miles the OEM struts were shot. My KONI's were still good when I sold the car at 100k.
That may give you an idea I guess. I know it sold me on the KONI struts, even if they are an insert for the fronts. In no way does it impact performance. Great struts.
