I'm tempted to get the 1.5 bar for autocross, but the rest of my suspension setup is stock.... would this be overkill?

you are going to need more to handle like an ss/tc, they have thicker front sway bars, and i believe better control arms and knuckles than the ss/sc. also better struts and shocks
|
i had sportlines now i have pedders and a hardcore bar and i drive my car every day and its fine great ride and handles great and not super low so you dont have to worry about hitting dips and ripping your lip off all the time
|
This thread makes me want one, I could care less how rough of a ride I have. I just can't deal with a lowered car where I live, and alternatives to lowering that make you handle well are very interesting to me.
Also they look bad ass. :) |
Haha its not really about or for looks lol

Well I hit the back roads pretty hard from time to time and I'm gonna start autocrossing every chance I get and which shouldn't be too infrequently from now on.
Tell ya what, for all the guys debating on what bar to buy: 1) Go to your car and put 60 psi in the rear tires 2) find a big open parking lot 3) do about 50 mph and start making a smooth but sharp turn 4) snap your foot off the gas Did you... 1) shat a little and stomped the brakes and spun = street bar 2) got back on the gas and corrected = hardcore bar 3) thought it was fun and repeated the process at 70 mph = XXX bar no seriously go do this :twothumbs |

Probably start with the hardcore bar. Your gonna come across situations, especially pushing hard on the street, where your gonna have to brake during cornering. If you don't know what your doing your gonna get yourself in serious trouble.

"XXX(Tripple X) Rear Sway Bar" |
Lol ok I know I am splitting hairs, but I think for standardization purposes we need to call this bar by the correct name, or else in the future people are going to get confused.
Take a look at the pictures, what we are calling the Powell Racing - "XXX" - 1.5" rear sway bar has a sticker on it that says Powell Hardcore Race Parts. Shouldn't we be calling it the Powell Hardcore Bar? |

Yeah they only make v2's for cobalts. I have a set of v3's I bought for my focus. Wish I got to try them before I sold the car. V3's still for sale btw if anyone knows anyone with a focus that wants some great coilovers. ;)

Not true. The v1's are adjusted from the factory. If you aren't competent with suspension setup they would be a great setup. |
haha hes saying most people are not competent with suspension thus they wouldnt be able to adjust them correctly

how would you properly use any of the coilovers for the balt then? according to wangspeed all of the coilovers are pretty much garbage and the best set up to go with is pedders + koni yellows adjustable struts. he knows his shit too, i dont tho. lol

AST will develop us a set of coilovers, 5100s for $3k. MMmmmm

Jason,
I think we said we'd develop one if asked. We haven't had any takers yet. 5100s are going to be $3000 for the shocks. Brian Just reread the email I got from them a while back, maybe I was mistaken. I assumed that meant everything but springs, but, maybe you guys could give me a better idea of what he meant. |
no top hats, no springs thats for sure.

kw only makes one good set for cobalts.... all the rest of the coilovers suck. dont think because you spend 1k and hear the word coilover they are good....there no such this as a good coilover for under 1999

There is such thing as 'good' (relative of course) coilovers for under $2000, and KW makes respected setups. Not everyone needs a set of anze, hotbits, ect (Don't think they make them for these... Used to the Focus), but hugely expensive suspensions unless you are competitively racing which most of the people in Cobalts aren't. Cheap and coilovers don't usually go good together like ksport, d2, and stuff like that.
stance/hsd makes about the only decent street coilover and even then i wouldnt call it a street/track setup. adding a higher spring rate out back i dont think is good either. they were hesitant when i asked about it which makes me think its only going to work for a short amount of time before they need to be gone through. |
