Jason,
I think we said we'd develop one if asked. We haven't had any takers yet. 5100s are going to be $3000 for the shocks.

Brian

Just reread the email I got from them a while back, maybe I was mistaken. I assumed that meant everything but springs, but, maybe you guys could give me a better idea of what he meant.

whyyoumadson? 05-04-2011 10:04 PM

no top hats, no springs thats for sure.

I know because Riaan and I investigated this months ago. Unfortunately for us, no one is buying them in volume, so we get the big price. You can get AST 5100 with full spring/hat/plates for about $3000 on some other cars like Evos. No discounts for us though.

Iirc, a full setup on our car would be more like $4000.

There is such thing as 'good' (relative of course) coilovers for under $2000, and KW makes respected setups. Not everyone needs a set of anze, hotbits, ect (Don't think they make them for these... Used to the Focus), but hugely expensive suspensions unless you are competitively racing which most of the people in Cobalts aren't. Cheap and coilovers don't usually go good together like ksport, d2, and stuff like that.

the only GOOD set of coilovers kw makes for the cobalt are the variant 2 and if they make a higher version and thats it. the 1 is just as good as everything else. usually no if coilovers are under 2k they are crap and thats the end of this. the focus and the cobalt are totally different cars and theres no comparison in other then the fact they are both front drivers but the suspensions are COMPLETELY different. the fact that most of these companies use higher rates up front then is the back is some serious fail.

stance/hsd makes about the only decent street coilover and even then i wouldnt call it a street/track setup. adding a higher spring rate out back i dont think is good either. they were hesitant when i asked about it which makes me think its only going to work for a short amount of time before they need to be gone through.

this is true. But look at mike Kramer just put some old cobalt Ohlins modified to suit his redline and won at VIR (your home track) Shows how important good damping is....

RooTBeeR 05-09-2011 11:26 AM
