New shock options

For Cars & Light Trucks

GR-2 gas shock absorbers, strut cartridges and complete struts are affordably priced, twin tube designs that blend a smooth ride quality with enhanced road control. A low-pressure gas charge and patented check valve minimize foaming and aeration to help make sure the ride stays consistent, even under rough conditions. When you want to blend like-new vehicle ride qualities with a little more control, you want KYB GR-2 gas series shock absorbers, strut cartridges or complete struts.

Wow are these full replacements? It looks like it to me. I know the Koni's are fully adjustable but these are less than 1/2 the price. May have to look into these more

I don't know if those are even as good as stockers for the SC...
I was looking at those for replacement for the commuter (Marsha), they are like 10% stiffer than stock to keep the ride height on a worn suspension w/ sagging stock coil springs. I decided to go BOGE as the KYB people were really against any warranty if my suspension was not stock, and I went with Nuespeed Softsport springs

i had those on my old saturn. they were crappy, but it was the only option for that car. they were a little better than stock struts with lowering springs.

GR2 are stock replacement. better off getting some SC or TC struts if you want stock quality or better performing suspension

i had gr2's in my old cavalier. they are a good strut, but far from a performance design. they do work well on a lowered car (mine was 1.8" drop), i had them for 50k km without issues, they are now in another car and have another 20k km and going strong. i wouldnt bother replacing good struts with these, you wont see a difference. 5 years down the road once our cars have some good wear and tear and worn out struts, for a cost effective quality replacment, these will be the hot ticket.

No offence to the OP, but I highly question this as an upgrade path. KYB has never been considered more than mediocre; what's more GR2 isn't even their high performance line....infact it's their low-end "oem replacement" line.

Assuming they fit, the 08+ SS's suspension would be a way better route. You can even get both the spring and damper from gmpartsdirect for the price of the gr2 damper alone. OEM 08+ SS dampers are Bilstein, looooong history of high performance suspension. --Not to mention being heavily tuned & tested by GMPD. There is even a joke in the industry for Bilstein.......95% of the performance for 5% of the price (compared to the exotics).

I have just about blown out both of my front struts from my lowering springs (CA#1). I have an LS with stock struts and only rode on lowering springs for about 15k. What would be the best bang for my buck that is going to last, ss/sc, ss/tc, kyb, or koni

I would say konis, since your stock struts are gone then just cut them and drop in the konis.

Yea I think that's the way I will be going. I contacted KYB and they told me that the struts that they offer are not made to handle a drop. They are only designed for use with stock springs.
