pedders are a great spring and upgrade for somebody that wants to go a lil lower than stock ss/tc and doesnt track there car i had sportlines first hated them...pedders next loved them...and now yyz i have a used set for sale too now if anybody is interested

 

I dont sell Pedders anymore, the warranty returns were terrible and Pedders weere not honoring the warranty. They rust. They collapse , bow out, and lose rate in normal street driving and eventually slam the car to the ground, which people may like.
YYZ dont require Koni's we just find Koni's better for the race track. YYZ are progressive front and rear, thats why they ride so well, we designed them to do that. The solid load is high, so the rising rate will give the high spring rates for on track handling performance, and stability under braking and acceleration which I considered to be important for our customers.

Time will tell if YYZ rust, but one thing for sure. We guarantee they wont lose rate.

I have a theory on this. You and wangspeed are both running the revalved struts or the konis in front, right? I wonder if that added damping is slowing the springs down enough that the lower coils don't touch. Since the springs are progressive, some coils are going to put out less force. Under an impulse load, like hitting something a little rough in the road, the weaker coils will absorb more of that impulse than the stronger coils, and accelerate faster causing them to come in contact with the coil next to them. That contact is where the noise is coming from. This would only be the case for that impulse because the forces will eventually even out through out the spring.

 

Konis have increased rebound, but not compression, so it won't have any affect on the number of coils touching under transient loads.

 

^^ this. And I am not running front Koni's I cant afford them, my budget has been used up dicking around on the race track with the Redline on YYZ. Wangspeed is the big spender here... hehe

If your car is quiet, and you drive the car slowly over small bumps, it is possible to hear that contact noise at the front. Our springs will now ship with plastic sleeves on the first coil. Thanks to Craig for pointing this out to us. I never heard this noise and still dont; I probably dont drive slow enough and my car is too loud. lol cheers

 

Just pulled out the Pedders in Coady's car, its a perfectly mint red ss LNF full of Hahn stuff, and 14k miles. NEVER seen a winter. Heck he hardly drives it in the rain. Pedders were rusty. YYZ and he is happy/ he said toss the Pedders in the trash...

 

Yeah I emailed Gloria earlier today to get those isolators. Yeah, other than that these springs are perfect. I was just trying to think up a simple theory to explain the noise, which I was wrong anyway

 

Not sure what's up with people getting noise up front, but for the record, mine is silent. I get a little noise in back, but it's from the spherical bearings.

 

PS Big Ronn says ZZP have Koni's and the price he told me for 4 was a steal. Dont walk, RUN to get them....

 

AaronJ, are you sure it's not just something like your bump stop coming loose? It's supposed to be glued to the dust boot. I made some custom ones that are very snug, so they don't flop around. If yours are not glued on, then you'll hear some noise. Not gonna damage anything, but you'll have to glue it to the boot to make it stop. You can check this quite easily without disassembling anything.

I'm interested in performance springs, but would like a mild drop. Something Pedders did with YYZ quality and longevity.

 

If it's lower than my CMs I may buy in. But I know on FE5 lower is usually bad news.

 

Not a chance. the fact is cm's, pedders et all have this unfortunate tendency to lose rate and sag.

If you like slammed, then go ahead. If you like performance and ride comfort in the only progressive replacement quality spring on the market for cobalts, go YYZ.

Next month the second run will be available for folks who want slightly less trim height. Not a spring for folks into drag racing or road racing...although it wont be horrible. Ut will trim .5 to
.75 lower than the current YYZ. The spring wire is a different diameter at the rear. Thats all I got.

 

Sounds like good news on the alternate version. I kinda wanna get rid of coils and get something that won't shake my car to death.

The only place you can get them, from the manufacturer, Powell Race Parts.

 

I saw them on CED today and I will be ordering struts from them too so I didnt know if anywhere else had a better price.

the YYZ Powell springs are the best quality best performing springs for delta platform out there. Made in the USA. Two sources only, Powell and CED.

Tom@CED is an honest hardworking guy, we have a great working business relationship with Tom, and inventory our springs for the USA market at CED so USA customers dont get hit with needless trans border shipping costs. I work on a consulting basis, for the NA distributor of HSD. HSD make Stance coilovers for example. We tested today some revised valving I asked for, on a Cobalt. Waybetter. If you want to slam ur car to the ground, and not be punished too badly for it, you may want to consider HSD. They need to be installed correctly, and I may be able to further revise the damping over the next few months, after we see how well these new rear damping setups work beyond my first tests today.

I want to also say, (100% read my lips lol ), I want to say that using coil overs in winter north rust belt states is just a short road to horrible destruction and corrosion of the coil overs. I have suggested to HSD that they not warranty salt damage. Its not really sensible to take nice alloy parts and subject them to abuse like that.
