HP Tuners Standard or Pro?

Which one are you guys running? Advantages of one over the other (other then price). Tried searching both here and on HPTuners.com and to no avail. Thanks in advanced for the help.

Thank you Didnt even think to look in the HPTuner forum.

I personally havent worked with an HPTuners but have worked with other tuning device such as Electromotive, AEM, Haltech standalones and Emanage, DTec, SAFC piggybacks. Should it be pretty straight forward and easy to catch on to?

Get HPT Pro.
The standalone datalogging is by far worth the extra cash by it's self...

WRT catching on.... I also used to work with Motecs, Haltechs, etc... HPT is setup way nicer then the others.
I caught on within a weekend of figiting with it.
On top of that, the forum support is great if you have trouble adapting.

I think the only thing you might need to catch up with is the amount of parameters some of the stock pcm's allow you to modify, cobalts aren't that "bad" in that they only have about 190 or so parameters to modify but some of the other pcm's have upwards of 600 editable parameters, once you understand what the main ones are you'll do fine. Our forum is a great place to start though.

190 isnt bad. SCT has came out with a Tuner for the SRT and it came with ALOT (and I mean alot) of parameters but only about 20 or so worth messing with. Wish HP Tuners can release the software for that market but thats a thread for the HP tuner forum.

I read this thread on HP and would certainly like some opinions on which to buy. Would the pro really be necesary if you are using a wideband with LC-1 and an Interceptor? I have a laptop which could be hooked to the vehicle for snapshots.

Yeah definitely since you can run the wideband right into our software so you can view it up against things like map & rpm, it'll make tuning much easier than eyeballing it.

x2 it's worth the extra$$

you can use the histogram to really dial in your tuning
saves alot of time and headaches

but you can also log A/F ration without the pro
there is a thread about it just look at the top of the page

but I'd rather just plug a wire right into the unit less hassle

IMO go pro

Look what I find when I search, there's probably a better thread with more opinions on it, but I thought i'd respond to this.

My question is, all I care about is getting an email tune from BYT and going with it. Datalogging from a laptop is okay. Also, I am never gonna tune my car myself. So for someone like me, is the standard okay?

Basically, it's gonna be like using a Trifecta style interface with HPT. Send logs get upload tune to car and repeat until dialed in.

Standard is fine. Especially in your situation. And as far as these cars go (SS/TC), standard is plenty as our cars have a wideband stock.

If you ever plan to tune another car (either yours or someone elses), having a wideband in the car or going to the pro unit to log AFR is very important.

So yes, standard is fine.

I'm in the exact same boat as vahdyx. I'm not looking to become a tuner. I just want HP in order to flash the car between stock/tuned for dealership visits. Also to have BYT update me as needed via email instead of doing a 3 hr drive unless absolutely needed. So the standard's fine then? Or would the extras for the Pro version be worth it to someone like me? I'm actually THIS close to buying one tonight.

Thanks
Allex

If you wanted to go that route, then standard is fine. Pro just gives you the option and ability to hook up and log and can integrate 0-5v signals from various sensors such as EGT, Wide Band, fuel pressure.

Also, BYT isn't that far and I'm sure he could schedule something to meet and personally hand tune the car. I, too, am not that far and could help if needed.

Quick question for you folks with HP already. Can you use a netbook, or is a laptop the best way to go?

u can use a netbook. just look at the system requirements for the hptuners and as long as any netbook or laptop meets that you are good

Netbook is the way to go for portability. Most netbooks on the market in the $250-$300 range are more than enough to run HPT.

I should have just gotten a netbook because my laptop is taking a beating and getting scratches from going in and out of the car lol. Not to mention, the size can be a little cumbersome when doing things in the car. Netbooks are perfect IMHO.

Sorry again for my noob-ness here but looking at netbooks I haven't seen one with a dvd drive, how have you guys loaded HPT onto it without a DVD/CD drive? Do I have to buy a separate DVD drive to load HPT? Bear with me as car-related electronics are NOT my stong suit lol.

Thanks again

You can download from the HPT website. Always a good idea to be in a location where your PC can be plugged in and have internet access. You have to license the VIN (puchase credits) to make any actual changes to the PCM.
