tuning for S/C 2.4 auto
Hey just wondering who could help me out with tuning if I was to swap on a S/C. I have a 2.4 with an auto trans. Would it be better to send someone my ECU and TCU to tune for me or just get a canned tune from ZZP or OTTP?
opinions? thanks.

I don't have access to HPT, so I figured the best bet is to send my ECU and TCU to someone that can tune them based on my mods I'll have.
Or is it easier to just get a canned tune from ZZP just to get it running?

The ZZP canned tune is ok but it's not great, I started with one of their base tunes they sent for a turbo 2.4 car and it had some very large overlooked errors, like no adjustments to fan setting on a boosted car, leading to 230+ degree coolant temps before the fans come on.
Will the car run/drive/be safe? Sure. Is it optimum? Not at all, nor do they claim it to be.
There has to be a local tuner within a reasonable distance to you, even someone with HPT that can work with a tuner out of state to tune you.
I would advise you to skip the can tune, get the kit all installed and then get a custom tune done. Will be cheaper and less headaches in the long run.

I've seen used ones with 4 credits go for like $300. They work on a credit system. It costs 2 credits(Except the Viper, which costs 20 credits) to tune a single vehicle an unlimited number of times. You can buy more credits, but keep in mind you can't tune ALL cars. Just the ones on their supported vehicle list. If you go this route, you can have someone remote tune you, and then in the future if you need to make a small change then you can.

Yea this definitely seems to be the better way to go here. I guess I need to start looking for one. Thanks for all the info...
I'll start reading up on HPT and how to use it. Thanks again.

Do you plan on waiting a while to install the SC kit? Maybe tune your NA? You can learn a lot by tuning NA before you SC the car. I always offer people and I probably always will. If you decide to tune your NA PM me for help so you don't have to pay someone to tune your NA. I won't do your SC tune but NA I have no problem with.

I'm not sure man, I'm still gathering a few parts for the SC swap but tuning was the big worry I had once I got the blower on. I'd hope to be putting it on in the next month or so.
As it sits I am completely stock, no mods at all. I don't know how much I could get from an NA tune or if it would be even worth it. What are your thoughts?

If you're going to need to tune it anyway and you're going to buy HPT then it's worth it. You can change the tune unlimited times anyway. I've probably flashed a few hundred different tunes to my car. And there are things you can do that may the car way more fun to drive even stock. But it's mostly perspective whether it's worth it or not.

I definitely need to read up on HPT and tuning in general as I know nothing about it. But it would be nice to be able to tune myself or just to have it for remote tuning.
