Is a short shifter mainly to be used for throw reduction? Is there one for base models or is it pointless? I dont know anything about short shifters that is why i am asking

It's for throw reduction, height reduction, and smoother shifts. Also it makes it to where you can screw on a new knob since the base models are just a smooth shaft with a indention on the front. Yes they do make a base model one because I just ordered one myself. ^.^

altight i see that it comes with a weighted shift knob? what is the purpose of the knob? also would I install it myself or bring it somethwere to have it installed?

The Shift knob will act as a counterweight while shifting. It will improve the feel of the shifter and not to mention the its great looks!
