How does it work? Our TWM Performance bushings explained!

We get a lot of PMs and emails from folks asking how and why our bushings make a huge difference vs stock, well, let me explain to you why they do!

OEM shifter bushings are, usually, made of rubber. Rubber, as we all know, is a rather flexible material. In the case of the OEM base bushings for your Cobalts, it dampens the feel of the shift. For some, this makes for a more comfortable and less communicative shift, but for drivers seeking more vehicle feedback, OEM bushings couldn't be farther away from the product for you. This being said, our base bushings are here to the rescue. They remedy the stock "mushy" feel by creating a solid bond between the shifter assembly and the chassis of the car making for the ideal, extremely crisp, connection between shifter and driver.

Here's how these base bushings install (simple diagram)

To heighten the feel and driver feedback, our Cobalt SS Short Shifter is definitely a recommended product. If you combine base bushings, short shifter and shift knob, you've got the best possible shifting kit on the market, and that's backed by our lifetime guarantee. If you're interested, shoot me a PM and I'll be more than happy to quote you a price on any one of our products offered for your Cobalts

Cheers,

Renato

This further solidifies the need for these bushings. I already have the shifter, but now I'm getting this, and the cable clamp.

Supposedly. It's an all metal piece, compared to the LSJ one that has rubber on it. Nothing but positive reviews with it, so for $22 from the dealer, why not?

I saw the difference. It looks like a solid metal piece vice the rubber insert they have on the stock LSJ. I placed my order for one. Now for the clamp, and bushings.

Well, let's put it this way; if you take your standard pair of shoes, their soles are made to cushion the impact of walking from your knees and other body parts. The soles of shoes are typically some sort of synthetic rubber-like material. This is chosen because it allows for flex while maintaining its original structural integrity. If you replace your shoe soles with a solid aluminum plate, you'd feel each step's energy being transferred almost directly into your knees, thighs, etc... With our aluminum base bushings, the cushioning from the rubber is gone and the shifting motion is transferred directly to your hand & arm, providing the driver with the ultimate feel. Hope this clears things up!

Let me know if you need help with anything else

Thank you,
It wouldn't sound necessarily like f&f but it would definitely alter the sound of the shift. The shift would be more like a solid clunk rather than a shift with a lot of give and flex.

thank you,
i wouldn't wanted making sound, because after a while i would get annoy by it.
quick question:
the give and flex, that is for the stock or with a TWM short shifter?

if so, how much give and flex there is with the TWM short shifter?

Thank you,

Thank you,
The stock shifter has lots of flex, our unit practically eliminates it all!
