TWM Performance Short Shifter installed

Received my TWM Short Shifter today, and immediately pulled my Hurst out, and installed the TWM. I ordered the optional base bushings, and the BIG Type R knob, in flat black.

I'm not writing a full how-to because the one supplied with the TWM shifter is extremely good.

Helloooo

Goodbye Hurst!

When uninstalling your stock, or other aftermarket shifter assembly, i recommend marking the shaft before you release the gray clamp. This allows you to easily re-install it, without having to make any adjustments. I used a PURPLE sharpie, because that's just how i roll.

TWM shifter shaft installed

Reverse lockout system installed on shaft.

BIG Type R knob w/engraving installed

Everything in, and all the important stuff back on the shifter

Just drove about 20 miles, and so far i'm in love. Shifting is so much smoother, more precise, and everything just feels all around more solid. The weighted knob makes the throw absolutely effortless.

I have the weighted M1 Abrams knob and I know what you mean Will. I swapped to the standard knob that I have with mine and went for a drive to see the difference. Before I got out of my subdivision I pulled over and swapped back.

Well, i got a sponsorship from TWM, so the shifter itself was essentially free.

But, the TWM is a better design imo. The pivot ball is permanently fixed to the shaft. The hurst's pivot ball is held in place with a set screw. the set screw tend to back off no matter how much loctite you use, and the shifter starts to wobble.

The TWM is also a bit shorter than all the others.

Just overall a much nicer shifter from what i can tell.

Going from stock to TWM takes roughly 45 minutes and the only reason it takes that long is taking off the stock shift knob. Everything else is pie. I do recommend doing the bushings before you put the shifter back in. Kinda awkward otherwise. I ended up dropping one down into the carpet and had to pull it up and retrieve it.

All the plastic trim comes off super easy. You really don't have to pull too hard. The most essential part IMO is marking the shift cable, you do that, it'll be a painless install.

Wow, that'd be nice to have a sponsorship. So that's the weighted knob, you say it the weight helps you shift easier? Did you get the clamp as well?

what you need to mark the cable for?

any im not talking the black exterior trim.. i was talking about the plastic you have to trim out of the stock shifter assembly with a dremel (according to twm instructions)

oh, wtf, not for the SS's lol.

The when you take the clamp off the cable, and put it back on, if you don't put it right back where you took it off of, it won't shift into gears right, since the alignment is all messed up. But if you mark it, you won't have to worry about that, just slip it right back on where it was, and bingo.

No, no clamp, i honestly don't see what purpose it serves, i figure you're break roll pins before you tore the stock clamp loose.

The knob is pretty damn heavy. Just adds momentum to your shift effort, making the shifts seam easier.
