I live near a college town and see plates from all over. does it matter if they have current registration and/or have brackets still attached?

Just a thought but maybe you could get whoever to write year/make/model and their name on the back in sharpie so you know where each one has been. Kinda like a plate family tree.

Right now I know where most of them are coming from anyways as I buy them directly from the people, marking them with post-its with their owner and town would prob be neat though

I'm too fussy about original condition to write on them, I could just print out info and packing tape it onto the back though.
