They are bulky and weigh a lot in tandem. Wheels alone can be boxed and shipped easily. They don't weigh much. Tires can be strapped together and shipped really easily. Discounttiredirect does it. Doc @ tire rack has done millions too. But once you put them together that's when it's heavy and bulky, which adds up to costly.
