03 tib vs. 96 cobra mustang

Last night at the light, this guy in this cobra stares me down. and i roll down my window and said "thats a cobra, what do you think im retarded?" he says 'lets see what you got in that little rice burner, ive got pure american muscle!' so me not wanting to back down decided ah, what the hell. so from a dead stop 3 different times, we were dead even on the launch and dead even till thenext stop light. he had his girlfriend in the car, so atthe last light before i turned off, i said, "you should tell your girlfriend youre sorry for not being able to beat a hyundai with your big bad v8 cobra" he said "i dont have to this is stock" i replied "no ****" and then turned...just thoght I would share

I smell a GT dressed up as a Cobra, but even if it was, still a good race.

you know, it may have been a GT dressed like a cobra now that I think about it. It had the snake badges on the front fender, and cobra wheels but it didnt say cobra in the bumper, didnt that year model say cobra in the bumper?

Sounds like that's probably what happened... if it was a '96, it would say COBRA on the rear bumper.

Now, if it was a '94, it may not. Also, the '94's had 240hp as opposed to the '96's ~300hp. So, are you sure it was a '96?

Well, if that's what the guy said, then that's probably true. Can't imagine why he'd lie that it's a '96 when it's a '94. Also, I guess we still don't know if it's a Cobra or a GT w/ Cobra emblems.

Assuming it was a '96, a GT would run low 15's give or take a few tenths depending on driver. A '96 Cobra should run low 14's, give or take a few depending on driver.

THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE. I traded in my 03 Tiburon GT 3 months ago for a 06 ss/sc so I know what that car can do. The only way you could've hung with a Mustang of any kind is if it was a 6 cylinder and the guy was lying about what he had. If he really had a GT or a Cobra then you are a LIAR!!!! THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL that a 03 Tiburon could hang with that. NO WAY

What is a Tiburon owner doing posting on a Cobalt site anyway???

Let me put it to you like this. 96-99 was not the best of years for the Mustang, but let's look at it this way

96 Cobra....295 HP Stock
03 Tiburon...180 HP stock

Any questions??

Yeah but i have seen 96' cobras come out the box...Even with just intake and exhaust, its a huge improvement. So im throwing the BS flag on you beating a cobra. HOWEVER IF it were a 96-98 GT id give you fair game thats when they first introduced the 4.6L motor into the game and were still working out alot of bugs. And i think cobras even had a slightly different gear setup than the gt's im not positive though.

directly from fords website
"The single overhead cam version in the GT produced 215 horsepower and 285 ft-lbs of torque; the dual overhead cam version found in the Cobra produced 305 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 300 ft-lbs at 4800 rpm. The base model V6 also recieved a slight horsepower bump up to 150 in 1996."

yea the sn95 gt's ran high 14's stock, so that is probably what it was, unless he just couldn't drive very well which is possible.

Are you suggesting you run low 14's w/ just a few bolt-ons? That doesn't sound very likely, but I could be wrong.

I think you guys mean 96-98... the 99's had the PI heads, 260hp and ran low 14's, give or take a few tenths.

that's what i was thinking of.. put a 9 instead of an 8.. but i highly dought a tibby putting down low 14's with just bolt-ons. that engine is weak!!!!! a 2.7L v6 with 172hp

Did the Tiburon owner say he was stock at all? He could have built his car up a lot.

Maybe the driver of the Mustang was bad, maybe it really was a GT with Cobra emblems.

And you don't have to own a Cobalt to post on the cobalt forums. Some people hwere own vettes, mustangs, VWs, celicas, etc. They could be here to talk with cobalt owners and just to have fun.

im far from stock. and its not just a FEW bolt ons, and yes im capable of low 14's. I never said i BEAT the cobra, i said it was dead even 3 different times. Same result as when i ran my buddies SS/SC when he was stock before he was pulled with I/E
