Like the 99-04 GT though all they are good for is the dig launch and 1/4 mile. Mustang GT's just plain suck from a roll or at high speeds.
Even with bolt-on's they looked like my 1993 Z24 vs Cobalt SS/SC from a roll in my Camaro.
Everyone says " Wow a bolt-on 05/06 GT ran 12's " so whats it do after the 1/4?
Answer: Absolutly nothing

Sorry but when I buy a car I need a all around performer not just a 1/4 mile queen.
With the exception of the 03/04 Cobra and 00 Cobra R and maybe the Mach1 Mustang GT's are a joke.
The 99-04 GT is so pathetic I won't even waste time talking about it.
The 05-06 GT is held so high due to the 305HP rating but has a top speed that can be easily surpassed by a stock 1993-1997 LT1.
I wouldn't have been caught dead with skinnies and slicks on my F-Bodies. If I cannot make a 13 second pass then drive it home through the twisties the car is worthless to me.

You didn't go very fast then in your F-bodies.

The performance on them really isn't all that impressive. Not for what all the hype was about anyway and definetly not for a 26k+ price tag. But what is impressive is the overall car itself. It's such a nice vehicle to drive. You get 90% of the feel of driving an old muscle car but with all the comfort of a new vehicle. The mpg is also much nicer than the older cars which is also a plus.
I do have to agree that after test driving one I can say that if they are faster than our cars, it's not by a whole lot, especially on a roll. My g/f is going to get an 06 5 spd manual though and I can't wait. I really do love the car.
Edit: Dammit, I didn't even check to see if this thread was a zombie before I posted. I'm such an idiot.

it still amazes me that so many people base their opinion about a car and get so caught up on its STOCK performance. Guess what? Your Cobalts are SLOW when they are STOCK. Yet you will bash another car that runs FASTER TIMES STOCK Its a two way street there guys.
does that include your cobalt?

Actually I broke out of my class at the Nebraska Sandhills run in my 2002 SS and hit an average of 165mph the leg of my first run.
And no that wouldn't include my Cobalt due to the fact that it isn't an over priced over rated dump truck like the new GT is.
The MSRP of the 05-06 GT is a damn joke, I seen a 06 hardtop GT with a $31,800 sticker price. They have to add for leather, Shaker 1000, 18" wheels, interior ugly package and interior accent package.
My 2000 & 2002 Camaro SS's had sticker prices around $32,000 but they were at least worth it.

So why'd you get rid of your camaro?.. These cobalts, yes i own one, are NOT 13 seconds bone stock cars..
99-04 GT's ARE FASTER THAN US AND SO ARE 05-06 GT'S..
the S197 GT is 300hp.. not 305..
Mustang GT's are not a joke.. they just aren't as performance-inclined as cars with MORE DISPLACEMENT

What makes an F-body more of an all around performer than a mustang gt? I'm sorry but we have had both a 2001 Camaro SS and we have the 2005 GT now and while the Camaro was a little faster it could not take curves like the mustang can. Who gives a damn about top speed anyways? When do you ever get the chance to top a car out??
#67
If your Camaro SS couldn't take curves better than a new Mustang there was something wrong with it.
And one of my Camaro SS's that was $30,000 also included some SLP stuff. With the SLP/Bilstein suspension the Camaro SS was rated at .99 G's on the skid pad with the Goodyear Eagles being the limiting factor for a complete 1.00.

"My car costs less" "My car has a smaller engine" "My car gets better gas mileage" "My car has a better interor" "My friends car would smoke you"
Think about it, if you can still sell just as many cars at $30k as you would at $20k, which are you going to do? Its all about making money man. Keep thinking your SS is the best thing since sliced bread and resorting to what a Camaro you USED to own is capable of. At the end of the day you hate it that the "over priced, over rated dump truck" is faster than your car. Let me guess, its in a different class though right?
Im a Ford guy and even I dont like the 05/06 GTs, but at least Im open minded and give them credit for what they are. Anyway, you know I have a "pathetic" 02 GT. I'd be more than happy to show you how pathetic it is.

U get a crappy driver, or a driver thats got an auto and those times are gonna change. Not only that, but the new engines are running 300hp, as apposed to the previous 260 horses that the earlier models were running. In comparison to a Trans Am, which runs 325 ( I think ) stock vs the 300hp G/T stock, thats a pretty close race. Its all dependant on the transmission type and the driver in this type of race.

From what I've read, it sounds like these new GTs are VERY comparable to an LS1.

But, if you wanna break things down for comparison sake:
LS1: 325hp/346cid = .939hp/cid
3V : 300hp/281cid = 1.067hp/cid x 346cid = 369hp
My God how I wish Ford would make an OHC with more displacement. Oh wait, THEY ARE!
Anyway, the weight is what kills the 05/06 GT's. Good for them they respond very well to simple bolt-ons.

The only Mustang other than the 03/04 Cobra that is a challenge for a LS1 is the 03/04 Mach1, they are a drivers race in the 1/8th but the LS1 should be able to pull in the 1/4.
The new GT may look good on paper but isn't a real challenge for a LS1. They are a good run stop light to stop light but thats all.
And yes you can go buy a GT Deluxe for $26,000, but it will have zero options. My 2003 GT cost me $25,698 with every option except the Mach 1000 and Auto. I even got the optional 5-star poslihed wheels too. Just for comparision a 2002 Z28 had a MSRP of $26,497.
And Helty yes Mustangs are good 1/8 and 1/4 performers but thats all.

The new GT is a mid 13 second car, LS1s are low 13 second cars on AVG.
So Mustangs are only good at 1/8 and 1/4? Isn't that all f-bodies are good at too. Unless you are still talking about "racing" after the 1/4.
