The thing is that it does not feel fast because ti's so quite and smooth. However. Look at the Speedo in thrid gear at 6000 and punch it... OMG

60 mph -- If I remember correctly 3rd gear was 10 mph per 1000 RPM's! Try 9,000 in 3rd, thats a little more exciting.

Your good up until a little above 9 grand. My point was that 3rd at 6 was not really that big a deal.

Nice Dyno graph... I'm assuming this is the automatic verison but to only yield 8hp and 5tq for an $1,100 exhaust system yah... the aftermarket must obviously suck.

he's still trying to find that "paperwork" and probably listening to more stories from daddy to tell him how fast his RX-8 is.

Top Gear (J. Clarkson) said that it was the "Best Overall Car" he had driven that year..

That it really showed that the guy in charge of the RX-8 Project raced cars.

That it was UGLY but Unbelieably easy to drive Very Very Fast.

yeah, this guy really needs to get his numbers right, especially the torque. I had my mazda in for new brakes this Saturday and decided to take one of the new RX-8's for a test drive. Damn those are fun. Not that fast in a straight line, but corner very well. The renesis is an awesome engine, very smooth and sounds cool as hell when in high revs. Best part about it is that redline alarm going off when you "think" you are nowhere near redline!

^^ yeah i hear you...the thing reminds me of a street bike, the way the engine winds out like that.
i agree that these cars hug the road like no other, but sorry with an equally skilled drive in both cars, no way is any RX-8 faster than a 2.0 SS

No but the car was meant more as an road coarse car than a strait line dragster. I would take one over a SSC because mainly its RWD, but haven driven one they are very nice daily driver cars.

o i def agree with you here...ive driven it a few times, but i would still want my SS over the RX-8 any day. i love the real short throw of the shifter on the RX-8, but the clutch isnt grabby at all, which i dont really like, but its a very tight handling car, and they did an awesome job, inside and out with the car, i give them that much.

The issue isn't the exaust, it's the ECU. keep in mind that the JDM version of the 8 is about 30 ponies better, but the cars are exactly the same car, except to say the US version is tuned a little richer. US regulations require that your cat last x amount of years, the JDM tune doesn't meet this requirement. Mazda's fix was run the thing rich, and save a ton of money. As for the exaust, if you take the entire RX-8 exaust off and leave it off, your only gaining a couple of ponies to the wheel. The ECU senses the extra flow, and throws the engine timing off to correct.

The encryption on the 8 has been a tough nut to crack, and since it controls just about everything, the aftermarket is useless. I haven't been paying attention to the 8 world lately, but I'm sure they figured out how to tap into the ECU for tuning.

One notable is that the Rensis engine is capable of 250 to the crank/shaft NA. The RX-7 engine was not nearly as powerful with out the turbos. When Mazda gets around to FI on the 8 the car will be quite impressive, I know I'll be one of the first on line to buy it!

the rx-7 had the same hp with fi as the 8 does n/a, yes that is correct. however, the rx-7 still had it on torque and weight. if mazda ever get's around to turboing the 8 it should be pretty damn fast. until then, it's a great handling car, but it's pretty slow.
