if you are racing him stock for stock, and you know how to drive your car, you'll be wondering why you even created this topic. I raced one before I got my stage 2 with a passenger and it wasn't even any fun. After I had my stage 2 and cai installed, I had another chance to go from 50. I pulled on him while in third gear from 50 to 100. When you crush him, be sure to at least roll your window down and tell him that his car looks nice. He'll feel even worse that way.

The Si was redesigned for the 2006 model year along with all other Civic trims, bringing about significant changes since the previous generation. The new car comes with a 2.0 liter i-VTEC engine that produces 197 horsepower (147 kW) and 139 lbfˇft (188 Nˇm) of torque, while also including a 6-speed transmission (an automatic option is unavailable) with helical Torsen limited slip differential. Spring and dampening rates 40% stiffer than non-Si trim, coupled with stiffer sway bars have bolstered its handling, achieving 0.90 g of lateral acceleration on the skidpad. It is also the quickest Civic Si off the line, with a factory 0-60 of about 7.4 seconds
According to Wikipedia

The thing is they're rated at 197hp which means they think they can keep up. They don't realize we have 200lbs of American Torque and they have a measily 137lbs of Japanese trying to puch a car up a hill torque.

That and they at best can do 0-60 in 7.4 seconds.
The Cobalt SS S/C was 0-60 in 5.9 to 6.3 seconds.
That is over a second faster time.
If you don't put ten cars on him I will be amazed.
They're nice looking cars but have no power. It's called the Honda curse for a reason.
Lets us know how it comes out.

The best thing to do here is just play dumb and go along with it. Just say " I know, Si's are the ****, it will be interesting to see if I can hang. Hey, just to make it interesting you wanna bet on it? How does 100$ sound, best 2 out of 3? Hell, I'll even start in my weak spot which is 40MPH"

Nothing wrong with honda's, its the majority of the close minded fanbois that are a pain in the ass. Meake em learn the hard way. Also, make sure he invites his other honda friends.

No we are talking about ~ N/A 180whp 2886lbs with better gearing vs ~ S/C 205whp 2991lbs and not as good of gearing.

It is a lot closer of a race than anyone is leading on, but I agree the SS/SC should win.

Why would you freaking race in a car you barely know how to drive?

That's how people get killed, stupid

if he knows how to dirve it will be a close race....the SI is easy to lanch and the lack of low down tq actuly helps its off the line with out spinning. were as the ss on the street has to play with the throttle in 1st and going into 2nd to keep from roasting the tires..

if your both equal drivers the SS sould win but not by any foot ball feilds.

if your doing a ricer roll race, the SS hands down , all you have to do is not miss a shift ...not real racing btw...

Those cars are pretty good from a dig though. Cobalt from a dig is usually a hard thing.

180whp is about right I'd say, I can't imagine a peak 26 HP loss from the crank to the wheels in that car. Although on the flip side, GM under-rated the SS S/C motor, most dynos were pulling 215 or so iirc. I know there are stock dyno sheets floating around the site in various places.

As for the gearing though, I think the gears aren't perfect, but they get the job done. The longer gearing in the SS is good for passing power while cruising (able to get the car moving as low as 2,000 RPM), or for a weekend track racer that sits in second and third all day. It's far from perfect, but the pull will sure carry you out of a corner and it seats you in the middle of the next gear's power band on an up-shift. Civic Si's are naturally high-strung, so the 6spd is a requirement to keep that power going. I guess one advantage of rowing the gears that much is you'll have a beefier right arm

Even though I slightly disagree with the gearing assessment, I'd have to agree that it's not a total murdering stock for stock.

Stock Car Times in the 1/4 Mile

2006 Honda Civic SI 7.2 15.1 (Edmonds)

2005 Cobalt SS Supercharged 6.1 14.4 MT Dec 05

hmmm 15.1 - 14.4 = .7 seconds which roughly equals 7 cars.

Hell thats more than a bus soooooooo sounds like a murder / Rape / whatever the hip word is now.

everytime I hear about the Civic Si's running the quarter mile, the time goes down by a tenth of second. Some guy was mouthing that most SI driver's run 14.7-14.9 now

.7 with 14 second cars is a lot closer than 7 lengths.

lol...its so funny . or cars are quick ...but not quick enough to make up for any **** ups. you bog your lanch , you spin to much , you short shift. you hit the revlimter ..you will go down .same thing goes for the si.

the SI's are getting quicker as people learn to drive them. just like how every site tested the ss at 15.3 when it first came out. from what iv seen at my track, stock si are in the 14.8 with a avrage driver. range . my buddy with I/H/E is running 14.5-14.4. once he gets k-pro, he'll be deep in the 14s maybe even high 13s.

the ss should win , but its way to close to call it anything could happen.
