08 ss/tc vs 08 vw gti

So tonight im leaving class for break around 7pm. I'm sitting at a light waiting to pull on to a 2 lane highway with a good 4 mile stretch before any red lights, side streets, or whatever. I notice a newer VW behind me and pay it no mind and im turning onto the highway. As soon as we start to straigten out from the turn he heads into the slow lane at a high rate of speed while I pull into the fast lane. He speeds up until he is about 2 car lengths in front of me then slows down to my speed(just reaching 30mph)...then takes off. I really wasn't ready for him to go so by the time I downshift into 2nd and take off he has a good 2 car length head start. With my car only seeing 12psi in the cold weather I shift into 3rd and catch him by 75-80mph. By the time I let off at 115 mph I had an easy 4 cars on him and pulling fast. I let off, hopped on the brakes, and then he came flying by.

The first thought that stuck in my head is that mags rated the new GTI a better car then the ss/tc? On a straight line performance stand point that car is a joke when compared to the ss/tc. It's not close to the srt4, srt4 caliber, ms3, ss/sc, or ss/tc in acceleration.

This is my only real street race with the cobalt. I messed around with a few cars in traffic and what not but nothing where I was really racing. Keep posted because I will be running my friends stock 2002 Firehawk from a roll just to see how bad the cobalt gets beat....and I bet it will be by a few lengths.

Better ratings don't mean faster speeds
straight line performance whoop-de-do, not everyone drives around at 115mph
I'd rather have the GTI over a SS/TC any day

yea, I personally agree with the GTi being rated better. and I place the MS3 far farrr above the SS/TC/SC anyday. depends what "better" is to you though.

hehe, I was suprised as well... I thought they had more in them... My friend at work has one. I really like the lines and the rims on that car. I hate his plaid interior though. Stock, they dont have much to offer the TC as far as performance is concerned, but the aftermarket can fix that. Overall I am much happier in a TC and I saved 10 000.

I wanted a car that handled well off the lot and has decent power and stopping ability at an affordable price. The TC was number 1 in my ranking after driving many, many cars, thats all I care about.

The ONLY wait the GTI is better than the SS/TC is the interior. I agree on that. Although those plaid seats are hideous. But straight line performance and road course performance the GTI isn't even close to the SS/TC

VW is worse in quality compared to Chevrolet in 2008 JD Power. I agree the interior is better on the GTI, but everything else there is no contest. The GTI shouldn't even be compared to the TC, MS3, or the new WRX. When it comes to performance it should be compared to the TSX, Altima, and Mini cooper. It can't run with the others in any kind of race.

actually, its not even called drifting if they do it. its even funnier when they crash and they think they were drifting, and that they got "major slidage"

SS/TC's/NSRT-4's > Competition
your car is seeing about 12 psi in cold weather but it's still making the same power as if it were hotter and seeing 15 psi
