2.2 ls vs 01 prelude both autos.
some of you may remember my post from earlier were i told ya i raced my friend with the prelude... and how i was curious as to how i was able to beat him.
now i have a custom intake, im lowered and a strut bar and shift+ i know not all performance mods but just to tell you what i have done...
he has a cold air intake...
anyways as i stated before first time when i was stock and he had cai, we raced from a stop and i was pulling on him through the gear, and when vtec would kick in he'd pull me then i'd shift to the next gear and pull away then vtec he'd pull on me a little..
then from a 40 mph roll i pulled him in gear and he'd pull with vtec...
anyways the conclusion we came to with how i was able to beat this prelude was the fact that either his car was ragged out or needed a tune... well now he has that, he got the car tuned up, and oil changed air filter cleaned.
so on the way home we pull up next to each other at a light... i put the shift+ on stage II put the car in [I] not low but [I] im powerbraking, light turns green im gone, i jump over a car length on him... and slowly pulling away from him his vtec kicks in but im still pulling away from him i shift into second slowly pulling away he hits vtec again and im still pulling finally in 3rd gear he starts pulling on me then we had to shut it down could see lights on the horizon ended up being a wambulance.
anyways further down the road, i'm in [d] still in stage II and we decide to go from a 40 mph roll, i let him honk it off, i punch it and the car sits on its face, and he pulls on me by almost a car, once i shift into 3rd i pull back to half his car, i mean my front bumper was at the his passenger door, then he slowly starts to pull on me on vtec, we stop there...
then we decide to go from another 40 mph pulls i shift down into [I] he honks again, i punch it and he's already sitting at 5 grand with his F'n sport shift lol, so he basically starts off in vtec so he gets the jump on me.. i start pulling him pull almost even and he's at vtec again and pulls away from me...
so my conclusion is that from a stop, i got him at least through 1/8th if not more, from a 40mph roll he's got me.
im thinking its all boiling down to the gearing... the cobalts got alot better gearing from 1 - 3, and he's geared more for top end.
anyways just thought i'd post up a little food for thought...

no doubt needless to say my friend was not to happy about the from a stop even after his tune up and oil change lol... i knew top end he'd get me i just figured bottom end too, so i'm supprised the ls is keeping up... it could boil down to driver as far as the from a stop but he is launching the same way i am.
btw shift+ stageII in [I] = ownage. it'll bark from 1st to second and chirp sometimes going into 3rd lol... alot better than stock.

The auto cobalt has a 3.43 Diff, which is more gearing than what comes in a auto mustang GT (3.31) or a auto corvette (3.08). This is also the reason that at highway speed, the Rpms hang around 2,700. Without this high Diff gear, the cobalt would feel like a slug.
One of the best modification that can be done for fast times at the drag strip is the replace the Diff, many prefer 4.10s or 4.56 for drag racing.

There probably is a slight advantage for the 09, as the VVT should reduce the power drop off that the older 2.2 get after 5,500 RPM. The dyno charts for the old 2.2 that I have seen look great until 5,500. Might be worth 0.1 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

Nice kill man but just as an FYI Vtec does not "kick in" every time he changes gear at WOT. Once in Vtec the engine never drops below that line unless he lets off the gas. My dad used to own an 01 prelude those have some pep, again good kill.

EDIT: N/M I'm a *******. I saw where you said he dropped below vtec after every shift. My bad just never heard of any honda dropping below vtec after a shift unless he was getting off the gas.

Yeah my bad read my edit under my post. I didn't see where you put he dropped out of vtec after every shift since I've always known them to say in vtec during a WOT run. Even my dad's Lude which was the same year and transmission would stay in vtec after every shift during WOT.
