Arrow 2.2 vs Civic Si OMG RESULTS ARE SHOCKING

well we have an every wenseday meet at OU. well we had a newcomer with a 2006 Civic Si in RED (ooooo intimidating ) and he had an "aggressive sport appearence package" with a exhaust and get this a air filter "delete" so basically straight intake no filter. bad for engine but thats what honda guys do i guess.

so hes talking all this ricer smack and im standing there with meatball and just kinda chuckleing. the civic guys like "i can keep up with that ss/sc my hp can match it" im like ya no u wont ur gonna lose every time. hes kinda shut down but his ego Vtec is in the way. so i begin to say "as carroll shelby once said 'hp sells car, trq wins races'" so the punks are like ya we could beat u tho easy 2-3 cars. im begin to say id like to see that happen.

so one thing led to another and we went and lined it up. dessert road no one around and no houses anywhere. just a straight away 2 lanes and a GM plant about 3 miles down. so its like no worries no ones gonna get hurt or be in any danger.

we stop and we line it up at 0. the dig lol. he goes ok ...... 1.....2......3!!! we both go and we both have minimal wheelspin but thats expected. we both have great launches and were off. dead even all the way from 0-35, we shift i get a little jump cause i shifted faster but nothing to give me a lead just completely dead even. so 35-55 we both shift to 3rd. again DEAD EVEN. so we go from 55-70ish? when i have to shift to 4th. he shifts earlier cause of the 6 speed. and i whind out 3rd. by this time its about 75. WE ARE STILL DEAD EVEN. NECK AND NECK. but as soon as i go to 4th it doesnt just end. he then starts to INCH away ever so slowly. seriously i cant say ive had a closer race in my life. and since hes going all out im like screw it lets go. from 75-100ish we are still pulling. at 100 i let off. ok when its starting triple digits i call quits.

by the time i let off he was only 3/4 of a car ahead of me. we both pull over and hes like damn dude thats impressive. keep that car and do some more mods fo sho

i tell him that i was impressed i kept up as good as i did.

we did this lineup 2 times ina row same results both times.

IM LOVING THE 2.2 RIGHT NOW.

have to say that i am definetly surprised and shocked by this race.

I'm not so surprised. For all that HP in the Si, there's just not enough TQ to back it up. Speaking of people who can't drive . . . . a few weeks ago, I pulled up behind a 5.0 HO GT Mustang (yes, b/c it had the horizontally divided tail lights). He starts looking in his mirror probably heard me coming at him down shifting. We turn left on green and he goes to the right lane and I stay left. I wasn't gonna do a thing b/c it was a 5.0 HO. All of a sudden he squeezes, so I squeeze then I'm like ah WTH!!! To the floor I held it and then he does likewise. We were in a 40mph zone so I got out of it and hard on the brakes around 80 mph and he then went flying past me. I was like, maybe I should switch cars with him and show him how to drive that thing. Its not always the HP, TQ, driver or car, but the combination of all of them that yields a win in the end. My car an '05 2.2L Cobalt Coupe; 5 spd.

OH, BTW, nice race against the Si!!!!

Reading comprhension > most of the people in here

Delta clearly states the kid started off talking about maybe beating an SS S/C and then clearly saying to him, "well I could pull atleast 2-3 cars on your car though" He knew it was a lower model

Anyway, good "even hang" lol I don't even know what to call it.

Atleast he was a good sport and gave you some credit at the end though...not a typical ricer fanboi

I don't think this guy knows crap about driving his car.
Not saying anything bad about YOURS, but he should have had a clear cut advantage over you.
here's my guesses:
You can drive, he cant
He doesn't know that he has to have the engine revved out the ass and dump it all on the clutch to get his torque up from a dig.
He was probably short shifting and losing his HP advantage.
We already know he's an idiot for running a filterless intake, no telling what else he's screwed up on his car.
As has been said 1,000,000 time before "anything can happen on the street"

I think you'll probably have a harder time with someone else that has an SI.

Good job.

I was barely able to hang with a Si from 75-112. He actually had put about 1/2 a car on me by 112 (gov).

But from a 10mph roll, there was another Si that I played catchup to and could have killed if he hadn't let off at 55mph. I was only about a half car back and gaining when he slowed.

But I had intake, exhaust, and exhaust manifold, so hangin even from a dig to 100mph sounds about right.

nice kill but i've told people on this forum before a chevy cobie 2.2 manual with a good driver can take a civic si manual with a good driver i've done like 3x already, either all the 2.2 that have raced the si have had luck (i don't think so). So what i'm gonna have to do is when i go probably next week to race one take my camera to show PROOF.

What is th rating on the 2.2L?
It seems strange, but I never noticed the 1/4 times for 2.2's.
Obviously you guys are getting into the 14's with bolt-ons etc???
Sounds like a fun time, close races are the best.

Not really. THey're good for low to mid 15's with bolt ons. But the new SI's are HORRIBLY overrated. With a great driver that knows his car, they can get high 14s, most drivers of them end up with mid 15s.

Agreed, but stock.
Good drivers with just cai/exhaust are getting low 14's.
It is no secret that torquier cars are easier to drive, and an honda motor in the wrong hands is quite the let-down.

very odd results. Im gonna say that the kid cant drive. The exhaust u speak of is just an axle back(hfp). and maybe the intake mod he was speaking of was removing the resonater box at end of the intake(not the filter itself).

Im saying this because i have a friend of mine, with an 06 2.2 with a gay ass SS wanna be wing and body kit and some big fart cannon.(he thinks he has an SS

My EX wins every time. Both are 5sp. we've ran countless amounts of times, and i WALK HIM every time.

Im going to say good driving on your part, and very poor on his. Ive driven my friends car(2.2 ls 5sp) and an 06si(test drive before i bought the ex). Hands down the si would walk if not jogg away from you.

Im thinking he maybe have granny shifted(not on purpose) but due to lack of driving a car that revs up to 8k. But i could be wrong. Eaither way good driving on your part.

where did u get this. Yes some people are running over 14s but it is there first time at the track or often first time with the car. Most are running mid to high 14s(avg driver) good driver a bit less.

No offense but there are people on here with stock SS/sc and gm stg2 running low 15s high 14s.
i bet those 2.2 would super close race for them too?
are u saying that the ss is also over rated, or does that only happen to hondas.

its weird how every car forum u go to, From ford and chevy to honda and acura, the car on that website is faster than the others, and visversa.

most are running mid to high 14s?

sry man. but i stopped reading right there.
I have spent a bit of time reading quite a few forums.
8thcivic is one of them.

and you and I both know thats bullshit.

the great drivers are getting mid 14s. MOST are running 15 flat.

And just to show you im not full of **** the way you are.
cobalt ss/sc great drivers are running 14.1-14.3. but MOST are running 14.4-14.8.

In this case a good driver of a 2.2 beat a bad driver of an SI.
end of story.
