2.4 SS vs Mustang GT

So Im on my way to visit my friend, pull up to a stop light on an empty road. I was just gonna lay into it for the fun of it cause there were literally no cars but me on the road (early morning driving FTW). Before the light turned green a mustang pulled up beside me. An older man and his wife take a look at the good ol SS and give me a little rev. I thought, "I cant take a Mustang GT, but what the hell, if he wants a race why not give him one?" So the light turns green and we go. Best launch of my life by far, kept the front of my car about even with the middle of his. I stayed relatively the same through first, got to second and my front was even with his rear. With second winding down I started pulling, put her into third and started pulling hard. I passed the font end of the mustang when I was about halfway through third, then finished third and let off, with the rear of the cobalt even with the front of the mustang. I was pumped, I couldnt believe I won in basically a quarter mile race. It just goes to show you that modified 2.4s can be pretty quick too.

Now, I dont know much about mustangs but it was an 04 or before body style. I guess it was the 4.6l cause it had all the GT markings. Sounded like it had exhaust but I cant really be sure.

Edit: I have been educated on Mustangs and I believe it was a 1998 Mustang, not a 2004.

Intake, exhaust, header, tune, ground wire kit (which I think helps with shifts a lot)

'04 GT I think had about 220 whp. Its conceivable, depending on the weight difference.

Its definitely possible that he wasnt racing. It sounded like he was, looked like he was, and when he rode up beside afterwards he gave me a thumbs up, ****, he even initiated the whole thing, but I have no way of knowing for sure. I can only give you my word, you can formulate your own opinion.

if it was an older GT and depending on the 2.4s mods, on the street it could happen.

if the cars are atleast within a second of each other in 1/4 times, on the street that can turn into a drivers race.

Mods: Intake, exhaust, header, tune, ground wire kit plus every other mod you can do and still be N/A.

I honestly believe this car is capable of mid 14s. I just need the track near me to open up so I can get some updated runs.

quoted for truth, they lose a TON also because they're RWD, i believe they had an '03 GT that dyno'd 226 to the wheels on Horsepower TV the other day...and it's not light.

They lose 15% for a manual and 18% for an automatic. Not that much more then a G85 SS loses. Also cannot forget about the torque. There's a reason why most V8 cars with shitty horsepower are decently fast. It's because of the low end torque they produce.

Yea, it looked very similar to that, just a convertible. But he had to be modded, wheels were different, and it was kinda loud. And I was looking at his rear end for a few seconds and I saw chrome tail pipes.

Thought so. Verts of that era are in the 3400-3500lb range. Very believable story. Was also probably an automatic.

It didn't have but like 239 TQ i believe, they cammed it and ran a shot of nitrous and made a little over 300 so it's not that shabby, still isn't fast though. I'd say a modded SS/na and a GT would be a drivers race if the GT was stock from a dig, from a roll it's the SS no contest.
