They were never 'fast' cars but they would hang with the competition...

i'll pay $20 to anyone that's got a photo of a stock rear drive cavi.

OH Ok so it was FWD my bad... I thought for sure it was RW but I was wrong... but it was faster off the line... so what ever that is worth... although I am horrible at launching

Sorry I was wrong... thanks for setting me strait it sucks to sound like an idiot... but it really seemed to be RWD when I drove it.

It was an auto and had enough oomph to spin the tires off the line... not too bad I thought.

That looks sick... is that an ecotec or no? I really have no idea about the older GM compacts... that is a damn nice job though.

That my friend would be the 2.4 DOHC twin cam formerly quad 4..good engine but no where near as refined as the ecotec.

its a damn good engine, people just dont know how to build the correctly, ive never had any leaks or any crap other people have. i also got the 2.3 pump swap for beter oiling

the 2.2 eco's came out in late 02, before they changed the rear and fronts of the cav and sunfires. so some old style cav and fires came with the 2.2 eco that were made in late 02 when the engine came out.

I love my 2.4 TC in my 2001 Z24 it's just like my 1992 Achieva SCX W41 loud, rough and impressive!

The 2.4 TC isn't as refined as the 2.2 Ecotec but it will out run one, I know someone will say otherwise but stock vs stock the 2.2 Ecotec is slower.

As for 2.4 TC vs 2.4 VVT I have raced two 2.4 SS so far one auto and one manual. The manual gave me a good run and we were dead even until my 108mph limiter. As for the auto I had 1.5-2 cars on him by 100mph.

Last year before thew track closed I ran my Z24 and ran 15.3 once and 15.4 twice.

The 2.4 was noticably smoother than the older Q4 because of the balance shafts they added.

My GTZ felt like a diesel at idle. But did it ever move! LOL.

Tell him to check out mantapart.com or start searching junkyards for parts from a Beretta GTZ so he can have 180hp. Also Oldsmobile made a W41 motor in their Calais that was 190/195hp. Both the 180hp and higher HP motors are 2.3s

The quad 4, or 2.4tc is a pretty decent motor. I've driven my 00 Cavalier Z24 (auto.) since I got it in 02 and never had an issue with it besides changing the oil, brakes, and filters. Its a pretty quick little car, (can burn the TIRE from a stop) and is reliable. I made a lot of long distance trips with it as well. My only real gripe was the gas mileage. Unless you really drove like a granny, the thing was pretty tough on gas. (23 highway or so at 70-75mph) I traded it in on the SS S/C.

charged sunfire, i cant remember if you have any internal mods, i know the stock internals arnt the greatest, my friend just put an m45 on his, it gets super hot and he wants to do more things, what is essential to upgrade before getting more boost for these 2.4 motors?
