2006 SS/SC vs Fox Body GT STang vert.
Hi folks -
I just ran a late 90's GT Mustang convertible from a stop - and from a 25ish roll -
I was stopped next to this guy at a light and he would not look my direction - seriously - strange....
I figured he was just out for a nice placid cruise - but when the light wnet green off he went - straight arming his wheel and grinning etc - so I hit it and instantly matched his pull - and then pulled on him - got about 1/2 car on him and the I braked for the next light.
He caught up just as the next light turned green and hit it again, so I had to go in 2nd if I wanted to go. He pulled a tiny bit until the SS got past the flat spot at the bottom of 2nd, and then stopped the pull again and started pulling on him.
At teh next light, he waited until the green and then did a no-signal right hand turn.
I think a well driven SS/SC can take a fox chassis mustang GT - my car is 100% stock and I am not quite up to snuff on driving it yet in my opinion (I still hit the rev limiter in 1st...).
Anyway - just wanted to share - no innocent lives were lost and no cars were harmed in the making of my story.
best regards -

yup - that's pretty much the point of the post. Seems like a pretty close match for a ss/sc.
what's your point?

It was a nice surprise.

Plenty of stock 5.0's have gone well into the 14's.
A convertible GT is the slowest of all the 5.0's.
This isn't to say that you would have otherwise lost necessarily, but just as a rebuttal to the suggestion that it would take a professional driver to get a 5.0 into the high 14's.

My 88 Coupe stock was a 14.2.
You are dead on with the GT convertible being the slowest. Those things stock are slugs.

he either meant late 80's or got his terminology confused. The 79-04 Mustangs were built on essentially the same chasis. But for reference sake it goes like this:
79-93: Fox
94-98: SN95; 94/95 were 5.0, 96-98 were SLOW 4.6s, unless youre talking Cobra
99-04: New Edge, is what I hear the most.

99-04: New Edge, is what I hear the most.

Not sounding like a dick at all -
It was the 4.6 version -
I thought the fairmont chassis (fox) went right up until the new "retro look" cars.
I don't follow Fords enough to even know - thanks to you and Helty for the heads up.
best regards -

But, we figured out where the miscommunication was, and yeah, it was pointed out how dang slow the Mod-motor 95-98's are stock.
And you're right, you can't go wrong with a 94-98 Convertible, as long as you don't want to go fast haha.

I just bought my Cobalt SS/SC on Friday. Before, I owned a 1982 GT Stang. Although my stang was far from stock, and much faster than my cobalt, I'm still impressed with the cobalt's acceleration. It's not too hard at all to get the tires to squak shifting to 2nd gear.
I miss the shear power (was pushing around 400rwhp), but i certainly do not miss the handling, gas mileage of my stang.
I would believe that a stock cobalt SS could take on a stock 5.0 (assuming it's not a cobra).
When my Mustang completely stock (almost) it was running around 14.9 @ 93mph at the local track. I probably won't be taking my cobalt there anytime soon for comparison, but I'd bet it's around there.
But I'm just a car lover period. I dont care what it is, but every car has it's nuances.

Well here is a post from the owner of a 93 Mustang GT (w/460+whp) and an 06 SS/SC now with an INTENSE Stage 5 kit. Even stock fox bodies varied quite a bit in quickness due to manufacturing inefficencies. Compression ratios varied along with cam grinds and valve springs meaning up to as much as 20+hp. With my nearly stock GT I was able to run a 14.02 at 102 but most Stock Fox's w/ T5's will run 14.5-14.9 Switch to an Auto and figure 14.7-15.2, now add a convertible and plan on nothing quicker then a 14.9.. I've seen many posts of stock cobalts running 14.2-14.5 average so you all stand a good chance of winning one of these races. Just remember that a stock fox is very rare now adays but that doesn't mean that it's fast. And if your cobalt is stock, powershift second to avoid the dead spot. It won't work everytime but 85%. Good luck to all!

The car in post #10 went 13.99@100 BONE STOCK... and it's a hatch, not even a Notch.
And, it's got 110,000 miles on it.
