If it's just an SER and not a Spec-V i'd take the 2.4. I had to drive an auto SE-R one night and it felt almost as slow as an auto Civic.

Is the auto 2.4 a 4 or 5 speed auto?

I have a 2.4L SS 4dr auto, and from a roll with my exhaust & SRI i can take them, from a dead stop, no. (vs a Spec-V). So, a SE-R, you should.

VVT stands for Variable Valve Timing. I don't know the technical details behind it I just know that it can give big power if tuned correctly. The guy that I was talking to about it has a 350z with vvt and he got really technical and it just kinda went over my head.

Since he's auto it will be alot closer. The 6-speeds have some close ratios down low that get them outa the hole in a hurry. just for comparison i raced a 6 speed v-spec w/ I/E i had I/E/T and i bogged on my start lost 2 lengths and i pulled 1-2 cars by the end of the 1/8th.

vvt,vtec,mivec,i-vtec same thing except others are stronger than some... imagine all are shots of nitrous a honda b18c5 type-r vtec would be a 200 the vvt in the cobalt would be a 50 the spec-v has about a 75-100 shot
equal throttle but at certain rpms the power quicks in by itself

I get what you mean as far as the nirous anology goes, that the shot sizes represent how "hard" the cam crossover is. Some people actually believe vtec, etc., is really a power adder though...these are the people who say "Yeah, it's got 200 hp till my vtec kicks in, then i got 300!!!" No, you have 200.
