you kidding man? if we are talking used. . . i could make my car do all that for under 25k, an old fox body mustang, a old Eagle talon, a old WRX, for that matter you could get an old pinto and for 25k make it handle better, stop better, and accelerate in a straight line better.

like i said i didnt know we were talking about 'brand new' cars smart ass.

and i just read C&D's quickest cars of 2009 from 20,000-25,000K and the Mazda speed 3 won. . . granted they used a 4 door cobalt SS, not sure why but hey. . .

ohh and i forgot all about the dodge Caliber SRT4 . . . just googled some times. . . stock they have gone 13.5 . . now again im not cutting down the Cobalts im a GM guy and would take the cobalt over the Caliber, but you asked me to find some and i did.

whats the stock SS/TC running on average?
in that same article with c and d they also mentioned that the results would have been different if they had used no-lift-shift, but the conditions and rules of the tests required them to let off the throttle during shifts...

it takes less money to make the cobalts go fast. power to weight raito. lighter = less money! and of course a gto driver and owner will chime in. in any race you run what you brung deal! if you get beat you get beat. wheather it is a ss beating a gto or a gto beating a ss. i ran a sstc through sec gear the other day in okc ok. him in front in the same lane he held my sec gear all the way. 35 to around 50 or so. 3rd gear i just walked on by. all i am saying is i do like your cars. and the tc's are fast little boogers. congrats on the half car length behind. and i am not argueing with anyone today. i am giving props like i did the other day!

I agree with everything you're saying to the fullest. And I can believe a tuned SS/TC beating a bolt on LS2 GTO, just not a cammed GTO, LS1 or LS2. And with your 1/4 mile times in your sig, there are bolt on and tuned SS/TC's running that fast, which you already said you knew they were quick, but they're getting FAST, LOL.

It should be noted that I observed this SS/TC race the GTO in person and it was a dead heat for as far as I could tell.

It was an orange GTO and the mods its owner stated are the same mods that widoweight described.

i'd say fast these days is lower than 12.00 considering there are alot of cars now that stock from the dealer run 12's.

but yes the new cobalts are quick and good deals for the cost / performance ratio.

To get a 12 second car straight from the factory, you are paying upwards of atleast 30k, and that is just for a car that runs high 12's. If you want a stock car that runs low 12's with ease, you're gonna be paying atleast 50k, which the SS/TC was half of that brand new, and can hit 12's with just a couple bolt ons and a tune. Either way, the SS/TC is the best bang for the buck since the 03/04 Cobra.

Lets not forget the WRX.
Yes a few k more but it sure does turn some nasty 60 runs and mid 13 quarters!
Just as mod-able as us too.

If I had a few more k, I would have grabbed one

Whoa whoa, easy there slugger. No one has any idea what the upper realms of the TC is, if the lower end can take a whole lot more then 330whp, how much boost it can take and what it can run all out modded on the stock lower end. Let's just say it is the best bang for the buck since the last turbo economy car, it isn't in the same breath as the cobra which followed the supra.

BTW, this is coming from a GM LS motor guy too...

I believe the Supra was the must have car from the early to mid 90's, then came the LS1 F-body, then came the 03/04 Cobra, and now we have the SS/TC. Yeah the SS/TC isnt in the same category as the other cars in the past, all were RWD high horsepower monsters, but for around 18-22k, you can get a brand new SS/TC and runs 12's and still keep warranty and still have it your DD. You're right about how much HP this car can handle, but I'm sure this Spring or Summer we will find out. The new WRX is much better than the older one, but I think it's ugly and is priced too much, but it is a decent car compared to the earlier models.

QFT.
I too believe the TC is the best bang for the buck. 5K worth of mods and It is a real giant kiiler in a strait line and on an autocross course. It is already very good stock though.
