oh damn, look whats gonna start up now. im not bashing the GTO owner, but i had a feeling that a GTO owner would see that GTO comment. haha!

see this is why i hate text. that comment was supposed to be sarcastic with the "haha!" but there is no way to really get voice inflection in there. thats probably why there is the misunderstanding.

your mods make it clear that you can get off the line quick and i think thats the key to getting a good time and a good trap speed as well. i mean, if you spin for too far you have wasted a good bit off your distance to accelerate, and you arent accelerating strong the entire time in order to get up to an higher trap speed. on the other hand, if you hook like mother f*****, you take advantage of every inch of that 1/4 mile and you accelerate very strong the whole time. imagine if a corvette was front wheel drive, i dont think they would be quite as impressive in the 1/4 but they may still kill cars from a rolling position on the street.

this is just something i was thinking about, but it could be TOTALLY incorrect. there could be more complicated than that. if so, please educate me.

Actualy increased traction usually results in a lower trap than a run where you spin off the line, and this I've found to be true in my own cars at the strip over the years. The way it was explained to me was it has more to do with elapsed time than distance for that difference in trap speed - a run when you spin off the line usually results in a longer ET, so your car is actually accelerating for a longer period of time (therefore a higher trap speed) than when you dead hook on launch and hit a low ET.

All generally speaking of course.

That's a nice run for a stock GTO - here's a stock ~ 110 run (right lane) for comparison, very similar. I haven't yet lost to a stock C5 (my best ET since then is 12.7 on a 1.90 60 still all stock), C6's though, they're another matter *L*.
