A manual Cobalt LS would prolly be a decent race with an auto new edge Mustang v6, the 5-sp ones get about mid 15's stock though. The 05+ no chance, auto or 5sp.

So from a roll (please no arguing about roll-racing) how should an SS/SC do against a base '06 Mustang or an '06 Mustang GT?
I ask because co-workers have them and want to run them against me in my stock '06 SS/SC.

I agree its a drivers race but from a stop the mustang will launch. I race mustangs all the time in my 02 S2K, I beat GTs but cobras pull not even a length on me. Any mustang before 99 I pretty much beat, and my car is stock. I always pull hard off the line.

the V6's could be beaten... if you're stock, that's about it though

So, any idea on the question I posted? Just like to have some idea what to expect going into it.

My best friend is about to get a new car and he's leaning towards a 99 mustang gt. I was checking out the specs on the net and people have them rated at like 0-60 in 5.5 and low 14's for 1/4 mile. I think those #'s are a bit generous for a stock gt. I'd easily take him right? Well he can't drive stick worth a **** so assuming he was a good driver, I could easily take him hopefully. Anyways..
As for the v6 stang. I have one and I used to think it was decently quick but after getting this car and not driving my other one for a few months, I've notice how damn slow that thing really is. No ***** whatsoever.

some of you people need to get off the crack pipe,
SN 95 Gen II (v8) .. sorry.. an LS will not even touch it.. the ss/sc will loose also if stock from a dig without mods, with the only exception from perhaps a roll start they can take it (with mods im talking Stage mods, not cai/exhaust bs.. should be able to take the Gen II..)
question about racing the z28 auto..
Stock you will not beat it from a Dig.. you will loose by about 4 lengths up to 110.
from a roll.. its a toss up with your having a smaller chance of winning (1/2 length to the z28).. my buddy has a 97z28 aut with SLP intake and we have raced a few times (he also has fucked up tranny)

Well, compared to an SS/SC, you're right... a V6 Mustang wouldn't be that fast. However, my '00 5-speed went 15.5 stock with a crappy 2.331 60', so it'd be a good race with a 2.4 SS... and the '05-06's with manuals are capable of high 14's, stock. So, no, they're not as fast as an SS/SC, but they're not insanely slow.
If you're stock, and his car isn't ragged out... he should easily beat you. That car should trap at least 5mph faster in the 1/4 AND outlaunch you. Given equal driving, the Z28 is probably ~1 second faster in the 1/4.
Well, you have mods... that's a different story. My Bullitt would lay waste to almost every Cobalt on this board, but that doesn't really tell him much.
Nice kill. Work your way up to a 5-speed coupe. It should be a lot more interesting. For example. Last time I saw a 99-04 V6 Mustang Auto Convertible at the track, I was running mid-15's in my virtually stock 5-speed coupe... and he was running 17's in his car, and it had quite a few bolt-ons. They shouldn't be THAT slow, but you get the point.

Truly this sounds like mainly street races and anything can happen. My 97 z24 I beat a Forumla V8. Should I have? I do not think so, but the car was ragged out badly, with ticking valves. Anything can happen on the street. Same for the track too many other factors. I have beat cars I would never expect to beat on the street, and been beat by a few I would not expect to even run with me. Things happen.
