Civic DX vs Cobalt 2.2
I know, this whole thing is lame, I am posting it more to vent.
A Civic DX was really pulling some stuff on the road and I felt obligated to shut him down.
It was some punk teenager thinking he was in a Corvette.
Here he is in a 10 second 0-60 outdated 4 banger tailgating me and then zooms by and when he passes he taps his brakes and then vrooms his engine twice at me.
I zip over next to his left and he then gets caught up in the middle lane.
So he proceeds on my butt tailgating once again, so I punch it.
He of course falls behind a few cars lengths in the few seconds I punch it.
Note, I did not want to go too fast and when I let off my gas, this dweeb actually thought he was catching up, like his V-tec kicked in or some bs like that. Lame...
So he is tailgating me, merges right and tries to pass so I punch it, and guess what?
He falls behind a few lengths once again.
Again, I let off the gas and he then pulls up next to me revving his engine.
I had my passenger window down, and I yelled over "how many times do you need to lose to figure it out?". He frowns at me, says nothing and zips off.
He had a manual tranny, very loud exhaust (probably a 2.5" lol on his tiny 1.5 liter) and most likely had a CAI and who all knows what else. I know he had more than an exhaust because I have driven one of these before and he would have been in the next zip code instead of 5 car lengths.
My car is completely stock 2.2 with an automatic.
He is probably putting his car up for sale right now.
My car isn't fast and this kid max modded a turd that still falls behind 99% of modern cars (if they try).
Maybe the legend of the V-tec is really just people letting off their gas because they already pulled on the Honda and won and the Honda driver thinks the V-tech kicked in because they are now catching up.

They do have potential, if you have the cash.
Unfortunately for him, the Ecotec has more potential.
The same said cash/ mods into both cars lands another loss for the Honda.

"If" that $800 kit doesn't blow the motor, then yes dollar for dollar I guess it would win.
I have seen E-bay $800 kits for the Ecotec, but I don't trust them.
If I install the SS turbo kit, max bolt-ons, cams, porting, Trifecta tuning and so on, basically max mod my 2.2, there is no way the Civic would win.
The Ecotec has the land speed record for a 4 banger, and GM has the record for 1/4 mile time with their 1500hp Ecotec dragster in 7 seconds.
So potential wise, I know the Honda is not going to win if this was Donald Trump modding his 2.2 Ecotec vs Bill Gates in his 1.5 liter Honda Civic DX with max mods.

I should have mentioned engine swaps aren't fair.
The reason is, I am talking about engine potential, the chassis isn't a factor in what I am talking about.
Here is a video of my competition:
http://video.aol.com/video-detail/94...id=VIDURVAUT06
It is a wheelchair.
I could do the 3800SC swap or even a 3400 turbocharged, I even saw someone with the VRT motor swap in a Cavalier.
It should be the 1.5 vs 2.2 and not the B18 vs 2.2 liter.
I understand getting a cheap car to go fast.
The Dodge Daytona 2.2 turbo is slow, but with just the Super 60 kit, it is over 300hp.
I owned several F-bodies that were easy to squeeze more hp out of too.
Engine swaps on F-bodies can make some scary power.
But an old F-body with a Crossfire 305 begs for an engine swap, as modding it will take too much money. Just swap in a 350HO or even an LT1.

even without a swap, those "little 1.6's with no torque" can be killer.
and i say engine swap is fair game. if its so incridably easy like it is in honda land, then to me its all good.
id take my honda build over a 2.2 any day.

I wanted to also point out, many, I mean almost all speed shops say that to take a 80-100 hp motor and get 40 or more percent power out of it just by bolt-ons is near impossible and that any claims to that affect are lies.
That 100 or so hp Civic has 48 less hp and probably the same amount less in torque.
The weight difference isn't going to make up for having that low of output.
In fact my old Geo Storm was a 1.6 liter SOHC with 95 hp and 100lbs torque stock, and I max modded it, and it was still slow. Nowhere as fast as my 2.2 DOHC.
I understand that the Honda can be cheaply modded.
But I doubt it has more potential.
Stock they have a 0-60 in 10 seconds.
I am at 8 seconds.
You know how many mods it would take to just equal my stock 2.2 DOHC?
For example, just to take off .20 seconds, you would need a cam swap.
Now you need 9 more mods that have the same the same affect.
Unless you go for the turbo or do a motor swap.
My original point was, that Civic, with that motor, with the mods he had, I can't believe he tried.
I could say I will trade in my 2.2 LS and trade it towards the SS 2.0/tc and I spend $7000 to do it.
In Honda land, they "need" an engine swap or turbo to keep up or exceed.
That video reminded me of how absolutely slow the Civic is.
It is like my Dad says, you can make a forklift fast with enough money.

but when im done, my honduh should be able to roll 99% of the cars on this site ( yet again no offense)
theres a local civic around here running 12's NA no N2O. an engine swap isnt always needed.

Why is a Honda's low hp rating and no torque make for a high potential car?
If one with max mods got 120hp at the wheels, I would be very surprised.
I owned a Honda, and it was painfully slow.
I had a Geo, same thing.
Maybe I should have gotten a turbo kit or an engine swap, but I did not.
I own a Cobalt now and I have no complaints, 0-60 in 8 seconds stock is fair, not fast, but definitely not Honda Civic DX slow.
I can have the SC kit taken off a wrecked SS for $1000, install is $750, and Trifecta tuning for $300. That is a little over $2000 and I would have over 200hp, but there goes my warranty. I will stick to looking for bolt-ons first, and when the warranty is gone, I will be searching the junk yards or E-bay for a SC kit.
I see you installed a CAI, and some GFX, what was the reason if you don't mind me asking?

youd be surprised by 120hp at the wheels? im assuming your meaning the 1.6L?
well, ill find out by this time next year what ill be making, and im sure it isnt gonna be under 350.
thats what i was getting at. i mean really. i got a complete running motor for $250.
yes they have very low torque, whoppidy doo. doesnt mean anything when they still walk you in the 1/4.

vettes are alright. i hope to have my civic done by corvettes at carlisle. i wanna destroy some old mans inflated ego. then get me ass handed to me by a bigger badder vette. that would actually be fun.

You can take just about any civic from 88-00. throw an ls/vtec or a b18c1, with only pistons and rods in it with a 57 trim and a chipped ecu....that car will yield 350 whp easily and will be a lot faster than the said 2.2 ecowhatever with the same money spent.

i know. and i am saying dont waste your money on a civic when you can geat a v-8 RWD car for about the same price. and make a way faster car. you could buy this for example http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/937566073.html
