i wouldn't ever do that in heavy traffic there were only a few cars out... i put the camera down cause i was coming up on my exit faster than i thought (next exit was a few miles down the road) the car was going pretty good, the car was in fifth gear and it was still building speed that fast.
i'll get some videos no problem, it's just going to take some time cause i don't need to be getting a ticket over 100mph lol(directly to jail)

ok you do just like you said.. you hit 140mph @4000 rpm and i will send you $500 haha dude it's impossible. you will be turning well over 5000 rpm, and by the way, and something els eyou must take into effect is that i run water injection, so my intake temps can be all the way up to 80+ degrees colder than yours. that's a huuuuge temp change
but back to the original bet, it was for you to go 143 in 5th @ 4000 rpm lol so if you can do it, i'll send the cash

I was on a very flat vacant back road and these cars eaily go 140+mph.
I hit the 150mph mark but add gauge tolerances and that was most likely 146-149mph. Not to mention that unlike alot of cars out there this things feel the same at 120 as the do at 70.

yep... they feel he same until you hit the brakes and then it's understeer city.... when i hit the brakes going 140 on my test drive i thought i was gonna lose control for a second cause thats the worst understeer i have ever felt from a car.. oh and thanks for posting the speed, maybe the people that have never took them that fast will start believing the people that actually know what these cars will do lol

You hit the brakes @ 140mph on your test drive......How did you get a chance to do that speed on a test drive ? Seriously, you should really not brake too hard at that speed and brand new brakes are not seated properly to give you 100 % application.
(Note to self, do not buy SS/SC sold in Cinci, brakes completely FUBAR !)

Excuse my ignorance on the subject for I am merely an observer on this thread. However, could someone not run their car on a dyno to determine top speed? There would be no drag on the car and it could be easily videotaped. I'm sorry if this sounds too easy, it just made sense when I thought about it.

yeah.. a dyno top speed would run until the redline or gear limits. totally irrelevant

it's not that hard, i pressed the gas and went lol. i've never had a salesman ride with me on a test drive. one tried to when i bought my cougar last summer and i told him i was taking it by myself. i've never had one question me, and if they did i would leave the car lot and buy a car from someone else.

umm I don't know what your talking about with being able to hit that fast.
In 4th gear I redline between 120-125. After that it's 5th gear for me.
1st gear -30-35mph
2nd gear 60mph
3rd gear 100mph
4th gear 120-125mph
5th gear ???

I believe that if the 210 whp SS S/C has no rev limiter or speed cut off then it should be able to top at 155 MPH because i previsouly own a 2003 RSX-S (modded to 190 whp and dropped with H&R springs) and achieve 148 MPH on the speedometer (no BS) and also reach 146 MPH another time; both time at redline in 5th gear, then if i shifted the 6th gear but too much wind and not enough HP to go faster.

our cars would in no way run 190mph.... hell corvettes get up to the 170's - 180's somewhere... (not sure how fast the z06 is)

I doubt the stock cobalt has enough gear to hit 140 mph let alone 190. If vettes can't (not stock at least) then there is no way lil econobox cobalt can run 190 with that little power and being way less aerodynamic than the vette.

well ive seen 2 different places that state that the cobalt SS does "Top speed (drag limited): 145 mph". So does anybody have vids or pics of it going faster?

Well to back up selfinfliction here. I can't say I have hit 155 mph...but I know for a fact I have gone a tiny bit past 240km, which converts to 150mph. Now I'm 6'4", 220....I'm sure some of you smaller folks could even go a bit quicker. There is one other SS I know of where I am, this girl drives it and apparently she went a bit over 150mph, so she said. So I think it's quite possible. Where people live will make a difference in how the car performs, weather, density, etc.
Just my two cents.

thanks for the input..(i was also running water injection when i did it) but i'm not even worried about it anymore. after people actually get the chance to do those kinds of speeds with our cars they will not post anymore stuff like that. the same thing happened with the srt4, i mean come on... do you guys really think that car is drag limited to 150mph? lol from what i've read people can hit the max at 165 or something like that which is rev limited, not gear or drag limited...
of course you probably wouldn't hit that in 105 degree temps, a full tank of gas, a passenger, and a trunk full of groceries lol
