Cobalt ss/tc vs Scion Tc
Raced my buddies turbo'd scion tc. Was pretty impressed on how close the race was. He has a huge weight difference - interior is gutted, no hood on during the race and his hatch is carbon fiber.
First race was from about 40 both started in 3rd (different gear ratio's so he got the jump on me)
2nd race was from 40- 120 (cobalt started in 2nd scion in 3rd)
2009 cobalt ss tc mods- catless dp, k&n sri, synapse charge pipes, treadstone tr8 intercooler, magnaflow exhaust, hp tuned 24psi, Dyno'd at 315 whp and 345 wtq.
Scion Tc - Dezod s1 turbo kit, catless dp, custom exhaust, intake, gutted interior, tuned on 10psi carbon fiber hatch and no hood during the race, Dyno'd at 302 whp and 293 wtq.
First race I gain on him a lot towards the end of the run, second run I stayed a head the whole time besides when I let off at the end

I suppose he did save some weight. But still good for the Tc it has a lot less torque. Do they come with a LSD aswell? DI?
No hood during the race? Lol never seen that before. Woulda figure'd it create more drag on the highway than gains. What'ss a hood weigh 60lbs?

the carbon fiber hatch is what saves a lot of weight also!

Paul (owner of Dezod) definitely know his stuff about those cars, I've talked to him and the engine is pretty well over engineered although they still can't make as much without being built than the SS' can. Still way better than my shitty 2.2 though.

Good runs! Both of the cars weigh about the same stock. He gets out maybe 100lbs from the interior, maybe 20-30 lbs from hood, then you add the turbo kit which adds back some. So the weight difference isn't that huge, maybe 100lbs. If the weight difference was that significant, he would have walked you with the power levels being that close IMHO.

I agree. He does also have a lot less tq. Also has a carbon fiber hatch which weighs significantly less than the oem hatch.
stock for stock the cars weigh about the same. but on mine i do have aftermarket wheels (msr) which weigh about 8lbs more per wheel, sub enclosure, aftermarket seats (weigh about 10lbs each more) and I had a full tank of gas lol
But in the end they were really close races and pretty much just depended on who got the jump. IMO i was impressed with it and how close it was.

The tC's are no joke once they add our turbo system onto them. Stock motors can run around from 300-350whp well tuned. After that, it's built block and major fuel system overhaul time.
The S1 makes great power and is an awesome kit. Should you have any more questions, ask away! Here are a few more vids of our turbo on a Scion backed TA program we sponsor. Enjoy!
It's also the ONLY turbo kit to have survived the 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race.
