haha no we ran it up to around 110 and had to stop becasue of traffic i had 2 cars on him and i had a pretty good wheelspin from 1 to 2. on a side note he flew by me later and gave me the finger as i was turning to go to school kinda gay.

hey cody! i was the one driving the 2000 camaro ss, and didn't have two whole cars on the FNFAST cobalt. As far as not being able to drive son, bring your ass and shitty GTO up to WIR anytime!!!!!!!!!! and if you can run a faster QUARTER mile in my car, than I can in my car Ill sign you the title on the spot! It never ceases to amaze me how out of hand threads involving a GTO can get on other boards. Like all cars, Goats certainly have their zealots.
I currently own an '05 GTO (stock). I have driven a multitude of stock Cobalt SS/SC's and base SS's (05-07). I have never driven a modded Cobalt SS/SC, but I have driven some modded GTO's. Stock vs. stock, the Cobalt SS/SC "feels" faster and more "sporty" than my GTO, but in reality it is not. I'm sure you all know that.
From what I understand, a Cobalt SS/SC has to be "fairly" (I use it loosely) modded to get into the stock range of the GTO. By that, I'm thinking Stage 2 at a minimum, although you SS/SC owners probably have a better idea. Stock LS2 GTO's post 1/4 times all over the spectrum from high-12's to low-14's, and generally trap somewhere between 104 - 109 mph. The cause of that is obviously the difficulty of launching a heavy car with gobs of torque, and an independent rear suspension. Some people can launch the car right, and get the numbers they should. Others cannot, and I am one of them. Some LS2 GTO's pull harder than others stock for stock.
All of this is from the perspective of a current GTO owner that is considering a SS/SC to reduce payments, so I'm open-minded about both cars. Some people have no respect for GTO's (weight I guess), but they are excellent cars nonetheless. They are fast for a stock car in that price range, they handle well for a car of their size and weight, and they are great for driving wherever. One thing I have not had a chance to do with a SS/SC is take it on a road trip. Can anyone chime in on how it handles them, perhaps G85 specific?

Thank you for the welcome. After driving both, I will tell you right now that the SS/SC outhandles the GTO. All other things being equal, that substantial weight difference is very important.
While I will drag race, it's not the most important thing to me, nor would I even call it very important. In the context of my question, I was referring to the Recaro seats that G85 brings.
The GTO shines on long drives, and I'm known for making them regularly. I guess I'll have to borrow a SS/SC and take one.

Despite all the conversy of the Limited Slip diff in the G85 package, the Recaros have gotten unanimous praise from everyone from girlfriends to magazine critics.
They are simply a must-have for "spirited" corner taking.

I have a 2006 GTO now but since I had a 2005 SS/SC I will try to be nice.
You ran into people who couldn't drive or there car is new and has very low miles. And yes a 6.0 GTO is a bit faster than a 5.7 GTO. Although 5.7 owners will argue it's adrivers race only an idiot would belive that story.
A stock 2004 LS1 GTO can average 13.4-13.8 around 104-105mph, the 2005-2006 averages 13.0-13.4 around 106-108mph. On paper the 1/4 looks close but on the streets the 6.0 will easily pull on a 5.7 thats just the advantage of 50HP more.......
Sorry but 230whp isn't going to touch a 6.0 GTO, my SS/SC had 246whp and a 6.0 would kill me even from a perfect roll speed.
A SS/SC with 280whp may keep up in the 1/4 but the 400HP LS2 will still pull up top with ease. And where the hell are you guys coming up with these weight differences? Try 800-850lbs difference.

GTO's are fast cars, and it would take ALOT for a SS/SC Cobalt to beat one.

I haven't been able to get my hands on a G85 SS/SC to test the Recaros myself. I know that they certainly look nicer and more supportive than the regular SS/SC leather.

If you're talking about the original poster, I'm not going to say he's full of ****. Granted, I don't know that much about Cobalt SS/SC's, but I certainly am quite familiar with what stock LS2 GTO's do. According to his mod list he's running a pulley smaller than Stage 2, but without an injector upgrade or a tune. I think that would be sufficient to put him in the range that he could potentially hold even with an LS2 GTO until things get into top end. It's not like he's claiming a kill on a heads/cam or supercharged GTO, that would be a little unbelievable.
Incidentally, most heads/cam or supercharged GTO's are in the mid to low 11's range. What does it take to get an SS/SC into that realm? What's the basic limit of the stock blower?

I raced a 100% 2005 GTO when I had my SS/SC Stage 2 from a 50mph roll, he had me by 4-5 cars at 100mph then just left me in the dust. I also played with one on I-80 from 80mph and it was like I wasn't even accelerating. The original car in this post might put a car on a Stage 2 SS/SC so it wouldn't touch a 6.0.

Admittedly, I don't actually know what's required, and I am considerably more familiar with the GTO side of this discussion. I have to defer to the locals for knowledge of what it takes for them to run with our cars, and I assumed Stage 2 or better put an SS/SC in our ballpark.

You know what, i'll try and get a video of my friend with a 2006 Cobalt ss/sc with a stage 2, smaller pulley, exhaust, intake and some other goodies to race me with out my tune. So technically i'll only have an intake and exhaust. We're at a higher elevation so he has the advantage over me but we'll go at it and see what happens.
