Finally raced a 2.4SS!

I caught a Silver 2.4SS on the way to work this morning FINALLY! I was running late and admittingly was going about 10mph over the posted speed limit of 50 on FM1960. Anyway, as I pass him up on the road I notice he starts to match me in speed and pass me up. Maybe he was just in a hurry too lol. We both catch a light and that's when I notice the SS badges. The light turns green while I'm checking his ride out and he takes off a little spirited and to my surprise gives a little chirp on the 1-2 shift. The car must have had some kind of aftermarket exhaust because it was noticeable, it sounded pretty decent IMO. I give in to temptation and catch up to him at the next light. I notice he is inching up to the light as the opposing light turns yellow so I figured he was going to take off but I wanted to be sure so I didn’t look like an idiot. Light turns green (no traffic anywhere near us this early) and I wait for him to take off first to confirm he is actually wanting to race. We both roll out conservatively to about 5-10mph and then he goes WOT. I hear his exhaust and mash the accelerator. The stock 245’s light up for a split second as peak torque comes on in full force at this low of a speed. I sling-shot on him by about a car and half up to around 60mph and shut down because I could see headlights a couple miles down the road. He came up next to me for round two but I decided not to go again due to a few cars being on the road around us. Not sure what the mods were on the N/A SS but my best ET is in my sig for the truck. With a few more mods on the 5.3l I’d like to see what she’ll do with a stock SS/SC. Then we’ll see what happens when the LQ4 gets dropped in next year!

Good kill! But as an owner of a 2.4SS myself and having raced your type truck and never had a problem its a little odd. But with the tire chirping it sounds like it was a 5spd so a missed shift is a posibility who knows? Mines an auto and it doesn't chirp tires, well not that I know of anyway.

Not hating or doubting you just giving my .02 is all.

Good race!

Oops, my bad I thought that said 15.6 not 14.6. No wonder you pulled on him! LMAO! Again my bad dude nice kill!

Thanks! Those N/A SS's are pretty stout. I was definitely impressed.

That sounds right. Tofu's truck isn't stock. That's exactly what I would have expected to happen. Good race.

Wow you're right I just checked the Timeslip database...No one has hit a 14.99 yet? That's surprising.

Caleb's truck I would not mess with from a dig. There's a guy here in Pitt that puts down consistent 13.8s all night long is his "mildly" modded 5.3 sb. He's got a stall and gears plus a cold air intake and a mild tune. But Caleb, I would mess with you from a roll...

I've got two words for you Mike. "Sneaky Pete". I buddy of mine and I are getting a traditional wet shot kit and selling th ebig basketball bottle while putting 2-3 small sneaky Pete bottles under the passenger seat (they fit with room to spare) and using the rest of the wet shot kit and jets to make a nice, undetected 75 shot...
