G5 takes WRX?

k guys im not sure what happen but here is the story. im comeing home from work and theres a little red ion on my ass geting on the highway. so i got into the highway in 3rd gear and nailed the gas and left him still on the on ramp and im up with the flow of traffic. so i slow down and he gets on my ass again so i down shift into 4th and floored it and pulled away from him and i left him siting there. im doing about 80mph and i see a silver impreza like the 02-03 kind with the round front lights. i think nothing of it and i go past him. then i had to move over a lane so i slowed down moved over behind the impreza. im behind him and i see he took everything of the trunk no wing didnt say WRX nothing just said turbo in the middle of the trunk. so once we got around the slow car i moved back over into my lane and im driveing and he gets on the side of me and i went into 4th and floored my car and i started pulling away from him and i did here his bov 1 time and when i hit my breaks he was at the back corner of my bumber then when went flying fast me and i got off my exit. so i thought the wrx where fast or this guy couldint drive. my bro does have the 06 impreza 2.5L and my car will walk his also.

Those cars are supposed to be only a tenth behind the MS3 according to motortrend i do believe. May be a diff mag I read, but I know I read it. But it destroyed the MS3 on the 60' and the 1/8, so you can see that it severely loses power when that AWD is not so important from the roll. So if the WTX driver wasn't ready, I can see how you would run without him creeping up on you. Those are stoplight cars through and through.

Assuming decent driving,

The pre-'06 WRX's (2.0L) should be quicker from a dig than a 2.4L Cobalt/G5 (as shown by their faster 1/4-mile times), but from a roll it would probably be a decent run (as shown by their similar trap speeds).

On the other hand, an '06+ WRX (2.5L) is the faster car from a roll or dig. They've run well into the 13's stock, and trap a little less than 100, IIRC. Both of which are significantly better than a 2.4L Cobalt/G5.

Of course, anything can happen on the street, but the most solid evidence and statistically significant information we have (1/4-mile ET's and traps) dictate the above to be most likely.

i told to my brother about it and he said from a stop it would have beat me but because i was already doing 80 and went into 4th i pulled on him. i looked up the power the 2.0 had 227hp and 217 torque with a curb weight of 3100. so i guess i got lucky but i didnt kill him i just kept pulling till he was at my back bumber and then i stoped for my exit. i no i heard the tubro and could smell something.

A bone Stock 02-05 WRX is only putting down about 195whp and 227bhp.

A 06+ WRX puts down about 200whp.

AWD drivetrain loses a lot of power

I was thinking that the 2.0's make even less than that, and I'm pretty sure the 2.5 makes more than that. Their 1/4-mile times indicate they are significantly underrated, just like the Forester 2.5XT's were. But, I could be wrong

Either way, though, your point is true. AWD drivetrains lose tons of power.

yeah sounds pretty logical to me. when all i had was my muffler me and my good friend with the same body style rex raced, and he had turboback exhaust. he is a great driver, cuts 1.7 60's consistenly at the track. on the street he would walk beat my ass off the line, and we would be even around 100. then we went from like a 40 roll and i absolutely destroyed him, they are great from a dig and dont have a whole lot of ***** after that, hence why we can sometimes keep up with the STi's from a roll stock for stock. please dont turn this guys thread into an ss vs. sti thread now that i said that

A 1.7 60' for an AWD at the track is not that great, but its good but not GREAT. Chuck pulls 1.6 60's in a FWD car, I know someone who put down a 1.42 60' in a RWD car...

They are not that under-rated. Just cause it has .5 litre more displacement doesnt make it a whole lot faster with a pcm that wasnt tuned agressively for it. I saw a 2006 WRX put down 201whp and that was bone stock.

I looked around for a few minutes, and it seems that the 2.0's usually dyno around 170whp, give or take, and the '06's dyno around 200whp, give or take 10whp or so.

So, you're right about the '06's, but the older ones are much lower than 195, and thats why there is such a discrepancy in times.

well it does make it a whole lot faster really. peak power doesn't mean that much really if it is close to being the same. the fact that it got such a raise in displacement, it has alot more low-end power which the previous rex's lacked, so it can launch even harder and pulls harder thru every gear. you can feel the difference ALOT in the new ones.

Yea thats true, the whole powerband is now better witht hat extra half litre. But as far as 1/4 miles, they arent a whole lot faster. They make about 15-20ish whp more or so.

1.7 60 is nothing to scoff at man, especially in an essentially stock wrx

nope, not if you take it easy. dont go flooring it and dropping the clutch. top mph (for myself at least) in 3rd is around 95-100.
