my car (1996 convertable formula firebird A/T) ran a 14.2 bone ass stock. With the addition of a cold air and cutout- 13.8, headers, true duals, dumped before the axle- 13.4 spinning..

o yeah, 160,000 miles....

I love the ls1, dont get me wrong. But the gto without the 6.0. I dont understand why people just dont get that over the 04. the 05-06 looks better, and a lot faster, and if i had an ls1 that mustangs could hang with I would have sold it the next day. But mod it out, and you will have a monster. Texas speed is where you need to go. Good luck.

eh i dono, i'd personally get the ls1 instead...there is an ls1 gto at a toyota dealership down the street from my old house for 17k with 22,000 miles. with the 4k+ i would save by getting that instead of the ls2 i could make one mean mother ******* ls1!

HERE.
The Ls2 has won countless engineering awards. If you can get it, get the ls2. I can see where some of you say it may not be worth it, but beleive me it is. Its more then just the motor that is the difference. There are lots of little things that make the 05-06 a better car overall.

P.S why the hell are there some many gto threads on this site. You people are crazy! I am on alot of other forums and no other had some many rants about the goat. You guys might aswell change the site name to www.cobaltGto.net.

..that's why GM quickly replaced it and had to send owners a warning not to run the rpms too high becuase of the oil consumpsion problem. LOL The LS1 is virtually the LS6 and one modded...like mine...the LS2 has no advantage.

if you really just wanted to save money and have a fast car, go to a junkyard, find a 91 crx, put a H22 with a turbo, money spent, around $4000, for a car that can run 11s....

ok, so you are gonna use that example to justify getting THE SAME CAR with a slightly larger engine for probably 4k+ more? different situation here pal. If i wanted fast as hell for low money, i wouldn't be buying a god damn honda... i'd get a fox. If i wanted a fast gto, i'd get an ls1 and drop the extra cash in it that i saved over get an ls2 and have a car that is probably 100+whp ahead for the same cash.

Yeah, a fox body would be bad ass, i love the way those cars sound (at least ford did something right), all kidding aside, i do like the gto's, even thought everyone hates on them for there looks and what not, i do like them. But, they are not set up for the strip, the independant rear really kills them, and not to mention the weight, not hating on them, cause i almost bought one about a month ago, 05 yellow (just like my balt) they just wanted to much damn money for it. Not trying to get you riled up, just friendly bickering, thats all....

i agree on the irs although i think people make too much of a big deal out of it...still, there is an ls1 by my house (i actually live at school in FL but my original home, now my parents summer home in MI) with 22k miles for $14,800 bucks... dump the 5-6k u save by getting that instead of an ls2 and you have an EASY 11 sec car with a nice ass interior. then maybe swap in a 9", a few more bucks in there and u got yourself a monster. I really like the gto's personally, i think they are great cars, but just like the ls1 f-bodys i think people put them on too much of a pedestal. Sure they are great bang for buck, but there are other cars in the class that are just as fast for the money.

i like my bottom of the barrel (compared to an ls1) LT1...

talk about people underestamating a car, my car looks like a convertable firebird (v6) with a big hood....

The only cars with V8s that us '04s get beat by are other cars made by the general with V8s. Mustangs don't come after us unless they have a serpent on their fenders. And Chargers are not much competition either. But it's fun to mod either way LS1 or LS2, and after you tear the motor apart it really doesn't matter which one you have unless you like the ashtray, door lock button, seat re-design, or hood scoops. The brakes are better ont he 05+ though. Other than that I am happy to have my Slow POS LS1.
