Just Another Mustang Race

Alright, I guess I can't start mine like everyone elses, I was NOT minding my own business, I was looking for trouble! Anyway, I was heading down Main Street, the only road with enough lights to even hope for a race. Things are looking ok, a few Eclipses, a couple Civics, nothing special. (I am NOT bashing them at all, I just see those ALL the time). I was searching, toying with a couple people, but never really got lined up. Finally, as I was about to give up all hope, I roll up on this Mustang! Yes! I have heard stories about base models, and though it would be a fun race. So I pull up next to him and rev a little, I hear his engine give a gentle pur. Sounds stock, looks stock...I figure, hey, I may have a chance. Well, we are both reving, and the light turns, and I jump off the line...ONLY to realize he let off. Messing with me? The whole damn strip out of town. Every time I would let off, he would pull a fly by!? Well, finally we are rolling up this hill, (we stayed side by side for almost 6 miles)! Well at the top is the last stop light before a stretch of empty high way. By this point, I had given him the bait, and he didn't take it. He teased and poked at me, but never really went for it. We are coming up on a light that will go green any second, so I decide to give up. He obviously didn't want a race. As soon as I drop to 20, the light goes green, and I hear a mean roar! The bitch went for it without me even knowing! I punch it, and decide I will try to play catch up. I can hear him STILL laying hard on the gas, and so am I! I go from about a car back to being right at his door. Since cops patrol, we shut it down at about 90...I go to give him a thumbs up, and start slowing down. Right as I drop to the speed limit, (60), he pulls another fly by! And goes weaving in and out of traffic wrecklessly. I on the other hand, continue to drive safely and follow the law. I guess he was mad a silly little 4cyl could EASILY hang with him. No, I didn't win, but I WAS able to catch him. I think I would've won, if we had started at the same time. Instead I had to chase him down after he ran away...

Cliffs Notes:
2.2L Cobalt teases a Mustang with bait. Gets toyed with until they hit the open road; at which point the Mustang punches it without the Cobalts attention at the last light just as it turned green. The Cobalt was able to catch up, and hang with it bumper by door until they shut itt down. (20-90) roll basically.

I thought I mentioned it in the story...I am PRETTY sure it was just a base model, and I THINK it was stock. Sounded a LITTLE rougher, MAYBE intake or exhaust, but NOTHING more...I would never claim to beat a GT in a 2.2, only the SC guys do that!? LOL!

Just a little info on mustang gt's. 96-98 SOHC (non cobra) 4.6 was a DOG. Bad flowing intakes/heads, and puny cams and a pretty heavy weight made it what it is. Even though the power #'s looked promising on paper they were very slow. Take one from those years, non 3.27 option, auto, and you have 15 second et's. I grew up in a family with 3 other brothers who ALL had mustangs. In the area of 15 stangs total. All v8's from foxes to new edges.

I think the 2.2's can stay with the 94-98 stock auto gt's and definately stay with the fox body gt's stock autos that is

Fox body gt's vary through the years. The older "4 eye" cars were soooo slow. My buddy had an 85 w/5 speed (carbed). He had the 87-93 stock manifolds, h pipe, and cat back. Bumped his timing and was still in the 15's lol. He threw in some 3.73's we pulled from a 4 cylinder mustang at a junkyard and went into the high 14's. Not too sure on the 87-93 auto's. My brother only had one and never raced it. I would imagine low 15's, high 14's. 94-95 auto's probably about the same, although the foxes are lighter. Especially the lx notch.

EDIT: forgot another problem with mustangs is that most have been dogged and beaten up/neglected really bad. So they run like crap.

Well, this one was at LEAST a 2005...Brand new looking, so that is why I emphasized it NOT being a GT. I know the new ones are fast...I do want to race some of the 90's-early 00' mustangs...

Lols, Blaine goes on the defensive for the new GT's .
Don't worry, I don't think ANYONE thought it was really a gt that he beat. I was just wondering if it was the old V6's or one of the new ones. The old ones I can see, the new ones I would be amazed at.
