Just had my first race against a Cobalt SS today...
WOOT! Got my first race agains a Cobalt SS today! Was on K10 on my way home from KU doing some tuning to get my A/F correct so I wouldn't hit lean cut anymore when this orange SS passed me. I was like, meh...what the hell, so I sped up and got next to him. Young kid, maybe 17or 18, but I pulled right up next to him and sat there and he wouldn't look over. I dropped it to 4th from 6th, was going about 80 at 5500 rpms. That got his attention and I saw him drop a gear and floor it. Then I floored it. He started to pull and pulled ahead by about a car. As I passed 7K in 4th he shifted and I kept climbing to 8600. By 8600 I put about 1 1/2 cars on him. It was pretty sweet. I was suprised he pulled so quickly but died off so bad up top. Maybe he just picked a better gear to be in at the beginning than I was in. I pulled up next to him and gave him a thumbs up. He smiled and went on his way.
Just thought I would tell you guys the story so you could get a feel for other cars.
My set up:
2003 Acura RSX-S
Comptech Race Header, Comptech Exhaust, Comptech Intake Manifold Gasket, Comptech Short Shifter, Injen CAI, Hondata KPRO, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, ESMM, Ingall's TD

Good gravy.. Nice set O mods... lol. And good run I am sure. Yea the top end on those gears in the RSX is very nice. He probably hit third and topped it out pretty quick from 80. Hit 4th.. a long gear for us... and that leads to fifth.. I doubt he ever topped out fourth though it hits around 130.

The best run I have is back when I only had intake and ran a 14.9. Only dynoed twice, first with just intake at 169, with intake and exhaust 181. Yes, the exhaust added 12 hp...crazy! I am hoping to dyno tune it soon but they want too much money to do it. I am looking to be at 210 whp with the dyno tune and hope to be running 14.1-14.2.

nah, thats about average...there are some all motor rsx's running 12s though! Its hard to save up money being a full time student and living on your own but I am starting to save for my Comptech S/C and hope to be around 270 whp with that setup. I have a friend running a JRSC with water/methanol injection and he is damn near 300! I don't know if I will ever go that extreme, I just want to be able to beat a majority of cars out there lol. Go with the sleeper look. With a turbo its too obvious because you will usually run a FMIC.

sounded ok until you mentioned those numbers. If you hope to have it tuned and be at 210 he should have stayed with you better then you say. Maybe he just sucked as a driver. My buddy has a brand new Acura RSX-S and I would stay with him no prob when he had some work done already, and I was stock. I haven't raced him since i modded the car. but i am sure the outcome would be me over him. Either way, nice car.

To the other poster, its ok, I dont take that as bashing. I am not TOO suprised I beat him either but it was just my first run against one and I was excited about it. Wanted to share the story and my ride so if anyone is ever challenged by an RSX with similar mods the outcome will be easier to predict. Well, Im off to work. Thanks for being a nice, receptive group of automotive enthusiats.

Yea a kid I know has an rsx-s like that, he's actually got a supercharger in his, not sure what kind- it almost looks like he stole it from a balt. all sorts of exhaust work- not real sure on mod's. He run's a 14.1 he says...which i think is crappy for all the work hes got into it. But he's cool, now on the other hand i know some integra owners (young kids that buy them used) that think their cars are the ****. But still nice looking ride. I'm a bit of a toque junkie ever since i rode in my buddies 68' Nova with a 454 and minor mods, not even completely rebuilt and he runs 12.7's all day 0-60 in 3.2 secs. Stock the thing never had seat belts- lol you don't need them the g-force holds you in... until u hit a tree.

Good race bro. You have a nice car there plus the mods. As for a couple of people on here not thinking that your car could of pulled on him top end, I find it believable. Reason being cause my car hung with my buddies stock SS/SC from a 30 to 35 mph roll all the way up til I ran out of gears. But who know's, maybe that run we did from a 30 to 35mph roll was a fluke. But from a dig I'm done. There's no catching the SS/SC for me. If anyone remembers that video I posted up about a week ago, well me and those same guys went out and ran our cars again but driver vs. driver. And me and stilgar went from a 20mph roll and he pulled on me and I couldn't real him in. So what I came to find out is that the SS/SC is torqy as could be, but on top end, it lags a little power or something is restrecting it. But that's from my own personal experience. And notice I did say stock SS/SC in this post. For those of you guys that have the stage X, and what other mods, obviuosly you don't fall in this category. We all know that.

not saying anything bad but ive raced 2 rsx type s the newer model without the bumps under the headlights and tail lights 2003?.. i walked all over it i was stock and that car looked stock with two asian guys in it... and then i found one with at least exhaust intake on it the kid didnt look at me once.. so i passed him and got a ways ahead and fell backinto the crusing lane and then the guy comes along and blast past me i was doing around 75 and idk how fast he passed me at but i dumped her in 3rd and caught back up to him and passed him bout mid 4th gear the kid got pissed and got off the highway ... i love the rsx type s but i belive u found a cobalt driver that couldnt drive to well good kill
