Love eating gts' ?

So my friend in his 98-99 mustang gt (with an exhaust)pulls next to me and asks if i want to race so im like w/e even though there was three people in my car....we slowed down to about a 25-30 roll and he takes off all of the sudden, so without even downshifting into first i just slammed the pedal and pulled about 3 car lengths on him until 65-70 mph in third gear.

Anyway, the point of the story is there is no other car i like eating up more than 02 and down gt's.(the 03 and ups pull on me in third gear)lol

Are you talking about the 4.6L? Because those are dogs when it comes to speed... and post this in War Stories next time.

I have raced an 02 GT and that thing pulled hard on me. Just like any car, there will be bad drivers. You can't really say ALL Mustang GT's are slower than us because I can assure you more than 50% of them are faster then us

Assuming it's an SS since this is in the 2.0 performance thread I woulda loved to seen his face when he realized that first is locked out above 20 mph

depends on the year, which brings up a good point

the 98 mustang had 225 hp (if I recall, its close at any rate) and the 99 had 260, so theres gonna be a big difference between the two.

There is no confusing a '98 and '99 GT. They look totally different from each other. Did it look like an '04 GT, or was it more of a rounded body?

The only reason you ran what you did was due to the gears, without those the 94-98 GT's are high 14 second cars. Not to mention I doubt you only had headers and gears.

And a stock 99-04 GT will get it's ass handed to it from any roll by a SS/SC. But sice they have flexible 4 link rear ends they can launch pretty good. But even a bolt-on GT will see tail lights from a roll yes even one with gears.

Uhh.... who lied to you? GT's are high 13 low 14 second cars. The only GT the SS will touch from a stop or a roll is the 4.6L and I think they only made those one year... Sure is nice to start your day off with a laugh

wow...you guys are very uneducated about the Mustang GT... the ~98's are slow because of some crappy manifolds. They have the 4.6L and makes around 190 or so to the wheels, but they have LOTS of torque, so gears and a new set of manifolds will make them RUN. The 99-2004's have pretty much the same engine as the ~98 model, still 'just' a 4.6L, but with different stock manifolds. The 99-2004's have 260hp stock and lots and lots of tq also. A buddy of mine with an '03 GT ran a 13.7@101 the other day. I have doubts that you guys would 'easily rape' a 99+GT. If anything, it would be a really close race, from a roll. But they would kill you guys from a stop.

um, all mustang GT's from 96 to now have a 4.6l engine, cobras have the 4 valve heads, 05+ have the 3 valve heads

96-98 had poor head design, 99-04 had a better head design(PI heads) and made more power

Those are nice R/T and 60'fter times on that timeslip. The only reason you dipped into the 13's is because of gears and drags. Otherwise it's a low-mid 14's. My buddy had an 03 GT and 03 Cobra. The GT was sick. he had the same bolt ons + a few other goodies. The cobra with a smaller blower pulley , exhaust and intake was eating Z06's all day long. The whine that M112 put out was just incredible.

Thanks, it's great when people call bs and then I show them slip. Then all the excuses that pour in.

People always call 96-98 GT's turds without knowing their true potential.. given you have the time and patience to work on them. Heck just doing a regular junkyard PI heads, cam, intake swap will yield more power than a 99+ GT...

Hey no problem man, and I agree with you. There are tons of Mustang GT owners out there who think their car is God's gift to racing and seem to think they need to prove it to everyone by acting like idiots on the road. But, on the same note, you have those kinds of people in every car catagory.
