Thumbs up New Kills by 2.2

well went to the dragstrip last Sunday and man what a turnout. first i raced a Silver Integra with upgraded suspension, intake, exhaust, internals. i beat im by a car. next i raced an 06 Mustang v6 but lost because of traction problems. i wasnt planning on winning but still wasnt fair. there was some oil on the track from another car. they cleaned it up though. went up against a black honda prelude. once of the later models. didnt look like he had much but it didnt matter because i missed 2nd gear. i asked him to race again but he chickened out because i beat him off the line anyway. next was a red integra w/ upgraded internals, intake, exhaust, suspension. beat her by a car length. race a dodge neon with body kit and exhaust and smoked him horribly. i finished before he got half way down the track. i later realized it was an automatic. i felt bad lol. next raced another 2.2 cobalt with drifter body kit and all these different decals from AEM, Tenzo R, etc... yall know they add 10 hp to the wheels each anyways he was all show. i beat him by almost a full car length. next was a 4 door cavy im guessing an 03 with exhaust and intake. beat him by about 3 car lengths. i couldnt tell cuz he was so far back. next was an 03 GT Eclipse w/ NOS but he unhooked his juice so it was fair i think its the one with the v6 but not too knowledgeable on eclipses. i beat him by a car length. i think i had the best launch all night on that one. last but not least just before i left i raced a 96 or 97 Eclipse GS with exhaust and intake. beat him by a car length too. id say it was a pretty successful night. well i gotta squeeze in one more night of racing before deployment so look me up at the next one this weekend.

beating a car by a length at the track means nothing...to me anyways...plus, post some times and 60 footers and stuff to see what your car can actually do.

i have the 5 speed MT. plus the track we have is an old abandoned airport made into a track. they have like this portable timer they bring out only on Fridays and i went last sunday. its all ghetto. everyones hopin that they are saving the entry fee money to get a real track built. my best time so far was 16.3 but im going back this friday to see if its changed since i added the full CAI.

honestly i think a car length does make a difference. what makes a difference to you campo? 3? 4? either you win or you dont. doesnt matter by how much

16.3 with a 5spd isn't that great. You should practice some more. Im running 16.4's (spinning through first) with an auto. The 5spds are running like mid to high 15's i beleive? there almost a second faster then we autos.

Mabye if you went up against people who knew how to drive their cars you wouldn't be smiling at all. A stock 03 eclipse gt could easily smoke a regular cobalt without even trying.

I should have rephrased: car lengths period dont mean much to me at the track. Its all in the launch, know what im saying? I beat a mustang GT by 2 car lengths with a crappy launch...buuuuut he ran a better time. TECHNICALLY I really DID beat him but he ran a better 1/4 mile time. I just happened to get out of the hole .055 seconds after that little green light kicked on, and therefore getting a crapload of time on him right off the bat. Oh, and i only ran a slower 1/4 than him cause i had a passenger. otherwise i woulda worked him. at least according to my next run without a passenger.

soooo thats what i mean

Wow, that was a pretty tactful first post

The other car he raced, a 2005+ V6 Mustang, is faster w/ a 5-speed manual than the Cobalt LS AND the Eclipse GT, but anything can happen, so there's no reason for me to say something like,"Man, that Mustang should have stomped your little turd Cobalt." One, because that's retarded, and two, because anything can happen when there are as many variables involved as there are in racing.

So, feel free to post useful, related info, but if you're going to act like some E-thug, don't bother...

Not to mention he didn't mention whether the Eclipse was auto or manual. An auto Eclipse GT isn't setting the world on fire, by any means.

yeh i know 16.3 is slow but i havnt ran my car for time in a long time. i had some pretty good launches that night. i was surprised to have beaten that GT. he didnt miss a gear and from what my girlfriend could tell he launched just fine. maybe he didnt launch good enough though? oh well.

we dont have an official dragway. its an abandoned airport. they claim one is being built as we speak and will be open in Feb.

The other cobalt was a laser blue with a painted drifter bodykit. he had decals up the butt. AEM, Tenzo R, Injen, etc... he had about 6. kinda funny.

are you serious? eclipse gt's suck *****. they weigh 3200 pounds and only have 200 hp. i raced one the other day. i used to own a 3000gt/stealth with the v6 with 222 hp and it wasnt that fast either, i'm betting the eclipse would be slower.

Yeah those gt's are pretty slow. I ran with one with exhaust and intake. There soooo heavy it kills the 200hp. My cousin has a spyder and omg she always complains about how slow it is. i just laugh. But its the car she wanted sooo nows she stuck with it lol

LOL @ a 2.2 Cobalt owner calling a 3rd gen Eclipse GT slow, or a v6 Mustang ftm. A 5-sp Eclipse GT gets very low 15's stock, a new Mustang v6 gets low 15's stock in either tranny, and a manual can dip into the high 14's stock. I mean low 15's/ high 14's are slow, but you guys shouldn't be calling that slow

If you beat any of those cars you beat the driver, because the 2.2 Cobalt isn't in that class. It's in the Civic/ Focus/ Lancer OZ Rally class.

doesn't matter who drives what, it doesn't change the fact that an eclipse gt is slow...
