you can't say, "this engine boosting 1.5 bar is 1/3 the displacement but makes as much power"... that is a dumb argument. Technically it is true yes, and you both have good points, but keep in mind that boost effectively increases displacement. Displacement is not a measure of how big your actual cylinders are, but a measurement of how much air/fuel is used in one complete cycle. This is usually rated at 14.7 psi, or 1 atmosphere, but when you increase pressure by boosting, you are also increasing the effective displacement of the engine. All else being equal, a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder DOHC engine boosting 14.7 psi, should make very close to the same power as a 4 liter dohc v8 with an extremely similar design, similar exhaust restrictions etc. The best examples of high output small displacement engines are very expensive. Such as the v6 in the last m3, etc. There aren't alot of small displacement engines that can create the same kind of power as an ls1 or any well made, big v8, actually there are probably none without forced induction. Sure there are some n/a hondas and the like making 350hp, but where is their torque at? Probably still not even over 200. Then for the car to actually be fast they have to make up for the lack of torque with extremely aggressive gearing and alot of weight reduction, which then leaves the car alot less streetable than your average v8 that is giving the same kind of performance. That's why camaros, mustangs, etc. are so popular in the aftermarket, because they can make BIG performance while still maintaining extreme streetability.

rant over.

Damn ranters!!!!

Kidding.

I won't lie...you have some valid points

I'm not sure why gearing a lightweight would make a car less streetable, though. I guess you lost me there.

Start a thread in the lounge cake...call it 4 vs 8 or something...like that wouldn't take long to get crashed by other shouting vulgarities

it happens with alot of mustang 2v mustang guys too. They want as much as possible in the 1/4 out of their bolt on only car, so they throw something like 4.3's on it or 4.56's. Well yea sure you will accelerate considerably faster than the stock 3.27's, but if you have ever driven a car with that kind of gearing on the street it is absolutely horrible, and that is what most small displacement n/a guys end up doing. Shorter gearing will get you into higher rpm's faster and effectively increase torque (not peak torque, but you will make more earlier) which small displacement engines need more of. That is really why big v8 cars still exist. Think about it, your car has what 4.05's? Your tranny gearing is setup in a way that you aren't shifting THAT much, but compared to the stock gearing on say a z28 which is a beleive 2.73's, you have to work alot more to get up to speed. The whole point is, the more displacement you have, the easier it is going to be to make power and torque throughout a broad range. When you can do this, you dont have to fiddle with weight reduction/distribution as much, and gearing, etc. so it is easier to keep the car a comfortable, nice street car while having monstrous performance.

Here is a great example of the mindset of most LSx car owners:

cam any LSx car and tune it and you can have 10s reliably
That is straight from someones mouth on this site.

Maybe in the 1/8 if you can't drive. I laughed when I read that in the other thread.

I don't think your an ass...and thats coming from a guy who has argued with you until we almost both got booted.

You at least argue valid points...you just get pissed like everyone else who thinks..."oh my god your a retard" when dealing with the "my stock 2.2 liter hung with a c6 this morning!"

wow what a good thread to read and drink coffee to in the morning. i have both ls1 and a lsj, both are fun. i'm not saying that the lsj cant beat my ls1, i'm sure w/ full intake exhaust headers fuel 2.8" pulley and a tune will definatly walk my ls1 all day long. and i have intake and exhaust on the maro. i got walked on pretty good in my ls1 by a former member here (allshot) i down shifted to late but still he walked me hard. and he had about what i listed as far as mods go. so its doable.

ls1's are not indistructable, u figure a very low 14 second car compared to a low 13 second car stock for stock, with the mods i listed for the cobalt i'm sure it will beable to stay with my camaro easily.

I believe ya lsj. I personally killed a 2002 TA ws6 from a roll. Theyre fast, but not that fast. Not to mention a WHOLE slew of GTOs running the ls1. Slow as *****.

Ummm, since when is mid 13's slow? And don't start the whole drag strip queen comparissons. Were talking street cars here and mid 13's is respectable.

Unless it's a God damn Mustang then thats terrible.

Son of abitch there I go setting double standards.............

The LS1 Camaro's and T/A's, especially the WS6's are low 13 second quarter mile cars. Trust me, my boy is an F-body freak. He has a 2000 Camaro Z28 that ran 13.3 bone stock in an auto, so I know this. From a go you will have a chance against em stock, but not from a stop, unless you have some good mods

Quick Reply: ran a ls1 t/a
